After recently celebrating the one year anniversary of The Tech Guy show, Leo Laporte is looking for the second year to be even better. To kick things off, Leo is asking the Indaba Music community (which also just celebrated its one year anniversary!) to create the new Tech Guy theme song.

The original song was composed and recorded by our very own Ashley Witt. Ashley has generously provided all the original files for you to use in your audition for the next Tech Guy theme song. You can remix the song any way you like but your submission MUST be a recognizable derivation of the original song to be considered. Entries are due by March 14, 11:59pm EST. Voting ends Wednesday, March 26th at 11:59pm EST

For anyone not familiar with Leo's show, it is a bi-weekly program (2-5pm EST Sat/Sun) discussing all things tech - from reviewing new products and services to helping listeners set up their MIDI controllers to communicate with their DAWs. The show is syndicated on over 65 radio stations nationwide, through Premiere Radio Networks, and is downloaded in podcast form by hundreds of thousands of listeners each week. Learn more about Leo's show at Tech Guy Labs and Twit.TV

We are excited to bring this opportunity to Indaba and look forward to seeing who makes it on the show!

After Leo's fans and the Indaba Music community nominate the top 3 auditions, Leo will choose the best version to become the new Tech Guy theme song, to be played at the beginning and end of every Tech Guy show!

Note: there won't be any royalties or monetary compensation for the chosen entry - but hundreds of thousands of people will hear your song every week!

After much discussion between Ashley, Leo, and a few of us here at Indaba, Leo has just announced on the Tech Guy show that Mdl Productions' remix will be the new Tech Guy theme song. Congratulations to Mdl and thank you to who everyone who participated. This was a lot of fun for us - we hope you enjoyed it.

This contest has been going on for about two months. I know Leo has been away but now he is back . Do you think we might have an announcement of a winner by the weekend? It has been a good contest and everyone did a fine job. It would be nice to know who won.

That is really cool. I really wish I had been tuning in. I am honered to be even considered with the amazing array of entries that were made. It amazes me some times just to think how many extremely talented musicians must be on this earth. There are 53 great musicians just on this one page, and how many music web pages are there? Once again, I'm honored!

We really tried to time it so the results would happen before Leo went to Australia but he couldn't get to his choice before he left so he will be making his choice when he gets back this week. I hope Everyone was listening last weekend and heard him play several of the top songs; MdL Productions, David Glazier, Paul Minshall, Michael Harlow, Jim Hughes are the songs he played I believe. Several hundreds of thousands heard those live and many more in the podcasts afterwards so congrats to all! -Ash

---I can't figure out how to do paragraphs and line breaks so unfortunately this will look like one run-on paragraph.--- It's going to be great to hear what won this weekend but I'd really like to give a nod to several people that did such a great job and aren't in the top three. Anomoly Smith. Oddly enough his is my favorite version. He just went so far out with such a different genre from the original and I it's just fun to listen to. Michael Harlow's version is so excellent. It's a little slow for the actual show but really professional work. Jim Hughes also did an excellent job especially using some innovative techniques. William J Cactus really showed some potential and of everybody should practice doing this kind of remixing because I think he'll find a nitch if he sticks with it. Roger Marx did some really cool stuff in the beginning, it was really innovative the way he used the break music in the intro but the voice over stuff really made it unusable. Will H. did some cool video game type stuff and it is certainly fitting for this technology world. The thing that I've noticed the most is that the voting really basically went as it should and I'm actually impressed with the taste of the voters. Even if some of the mixes were really cool it seems that people were voting for what would work for the show and that's what this was all about. Thank you all for your submissions and your time. We are looking forward to doing this again next year and I think Indaba will be the best place to host! -Ash

Thanks to everyone for participating in this project! Leo and Ashley are reviewing the submissions this week and we expect that Leo will announce who's version will be the new Tech Guy theme song on the show this weekend. Of course, we will let you know here at Indaba as well.
