Ben - There wouldn't be much point in that. Four reasons that i can think of at the moment:

1. If they showed us what they were looking for, why would they start the contest in the first place if they already have what they want??
2. Gives the judges less hastle to choose out the winners. I mean.. it's gunna be hard if they have to choose one out of a thousand which are practically the same!
3. It gives us a challenge and makes it more fun without!! It's also more interesting to hear the winners track, and then learn what each artist likes :)
4. They probably don't even know what they want. They just choose what they're feeling at the time i suppose. They'll pick a winner, and a few weeks later they'll be like "Hey, i wish i chose that remix now, i'm bored of the other."

I'd be very suprised if they had something inparticular that they wanted. That's just what i think :)

Mantis- suggestion for Indaba. Maybe a brief commentary/synopsis on what features of the mix the judges were attracted to, what they were looking for, etc, etc. That would be very helpful to the entrants. Thanks again for the contest!

Prior to announcing the winners - this is where these guys placed:

Dr Jacoby - 219th Place
Oliver Leonard - 25th Place
dub fayt - 43rd Place

I am just pointing this out for those that may have any doubts that we listen to all the submissions and, to show community voting does not at all effect the judges decisions.

I really had a fantastic time listening to your submissions. Congrats to you all!

DJ Sdong already blessed one of Wick's tracks so it would be very cool if another one of Indaba's finest did the honors ya dig? You know how to reach me man so lets get it! http://www.indabamusic.com/songs/show/670129

wasn't that sax sampled from house of pain or something? lol. and too bad we didn't get to remix an actually chart-topping hit from t-pain like Buy U A Drank or something. That would've been nice to analyze and of course keep the drums ha. Not sure why TYSO was a single to begin with...

those stems were horrible, that crappy sax sample made me puke. I'm not a big fan of the winning remix but its not about me. tpain and the gang picked what they like and that's all that really matters. I've won contests not using anything but vocals. different things appeal to different artists but to be honest artists don't often choose remixes for releases, its usually labels and A&R guys that organize this and they often want something different or have a certain track in mind that's hot at the current time. at the end of the day you have to make a shit hot remix, use what ever you think will get you that. we are not here to make the same remix as everyone else. no one should take any opinions to heart, I've pitched remixes hundreds of times to major labels and rarely got any where lol. they get so many remixes from producers and choose the ones they like, even different regions get different releases. but trust me its not about whether you use stems or don't, its the remix.

i hope you had an awesome birthday tassili!! that recording you were on is shit hot by the way, I've a few listens, your bass is cream and its 1 stem i would keep if i remixed that track.

peace

Well the thing I like about Dr. Jacoby's victory is that it gives a huge middle finger to all the stem snobs on this site who look down on people who use some of the original sounds in their mix. This guy just won one one the biggest comps in Indaba history using all original stems. Just goes to show it aint what you do it's how you do it. Take that stem police! Hahahahahaha!
