Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I SPAM the discussion board?!?!
A: No! It's meant for discussion. Posting about your entry is cool, but please be respectful of everyone who wants to talk about the contest and don't post the same thing repeatedly.

Q: Can I submit a mashup and/or use samples in my submission?
A: No! Your submission must be made of the tracks provided and/or material for which you own the copyright.

Q: How many entries can I submit?
A: Just one! Make it count! (there are 10 other K-OS contests though, and you can enter all of them!)

Q: How do I download the source files?
A: You must first enter the contest before you can download the files.

Q: What can I add to the source files?
A: You can add anything you want! You can re-record the entire song, just use the vocals and build off of that, or do a straight mix and only use the source files - the sky is the limit.

Q: I'm new to mixing/producing and need some help!
A: If you need help and are using our online session console, check out our help section and online tutorials.

Q: Are we allowed to post the track to our other social networking sites?
A: Once you submit your entry, you'll get your own personalized widget so you can spread your entry all over the web. Just submit it and then click on the "Get Widgets" button.

Q: Can I sell my mix?
A: No! Submissions are licensed to you under a Creative Commons Attribution- Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 license. This means you can play your mix anywhere you like for non-commercial purposes, as long as you always give due credit to K-OS. For more information on this license, go to http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/

Q: My widget doesn't work. What the heck?
A: We continually work with our widget syndication service and other websites to increase compatibility as much as possible. That said, different sites have different issues with widgets. The best way to guarantee success is to follow these guidelines.

• Avoid using Internet Explorer (use Firefox instead)
• When posting to popular social networking sites use the built in sharing functionality for that site
• Avoid posting to the "About Me" or "Like to Meet" sections of your MySpace profile

Q: I don't see my question here!
A: Please post a description of the problem on the discussion board and we’ll help you as best we can!

Hey everyone! We’re expecting K-OS to announce the winners soon. If you are selected by K-OS as one of the 11 grand-prize winners, be prepared to provide us with your email, address, and phone number in a very timely manner so that we can work out the details for the CD release and get you paid! K-OS may be asking you to make minor tweaks to your mixes, so be prepared! Drum roll please...

Well, tomorrow Feb 20th is the big day. :)
I still think K-OS should take my mix for his "YES" CD, because it´s much better than the mix he has on there now. :) Once again, my mix isn´t really a Remix, I wasn´t trying to re-write his song like many of you did. It´s just a great mix that brings out the best in an already great song "4,3,2,1". I would much rather have my mix on the "YES" CD, than on the Bonus CD. :) Who knows, maybe K-OS will have me mix his next CD?
That would be fun. :)
Anyway, I wish all of you the best of luck.

Added; Stop picking on B. Nelson. Whether you think his remix is good or not, the brother was smart, and got himself some free promotion in a local newspaper. Ain´t nothing wrong with that. :)

I had alot of fun making my mix and this was the first time i have ever been in a contest like this. I found out about this contest and joined it about three weeks before the deadline and entered in 7 mixes.... i know i will not win but i am happy for a chance to enter Thanks to everybody that had voted for me and i will be a staple in this site and will enter in more contest like this one. Now that i know how it is run and how the voting dont make a difference in winning i will be taking more time on my mixes wich means ill be having more fun on them. I Love music and Ill be puting up some tracks to let you all know what i'm really about...

Good luck to everyone in this contest and i will buy a copy of this CD... Thats if their are any record stores still open when this CD comes out....

B. Nelson

Some more facts:

After reading the "FEATURED" article i can honestly say the reason it got printed is NOT because of your remix but because of the other things you've been involved with. Your remix was just an insentive. The other stuff they mentioned about you was way more interesting then your remix believe that.

I just found it funny how you said you were "featured in the Calgary Hearld for my mix.." when after reading the article and listening to your mix it's very clear why they printed that story.

You see that's why writers meet with people, and they would have met with just about ANYBODY who contacted them, because before they just go ahead and print a story about a guys remix on some site they want to find out if theres more to this guy and get some juicy intersting stuff...and there was...and this is why you were "FEATURED" in there paper..not because of your ground breaking remix.

Again , no offence!

Thomas Tasker,

Here are the facts:

"ryan,

my name is nick lewis, and I'm a writer at the calgary herald. you sent my editor tom babin a release about your mix for k-os' new single. dude, yours rocks, just checked it out online. would you like to chat about it sometime next week? we can either do it by phone or meet in the early afternoon for a coffee somewhere.

let me know what works on your end,

cheers.

Nick Lewis

Pop Culture writer"

Stop hating Thomas - I mean no offense.

Thomas Tasker wrote on February 12, 2009:

B.Nelson -

I don't think you were "featured" in that Calgary newspaper BECAUSE of your mix. No offence but there are about 60 better remixes and about 80 better mixes...hey i said no offence! :)

DICARLO PRODUCTIONS wrote on February 12, 2009:

I´m actually hoping that K-OSS will use my mix to replace the one that´s on his "YES" CD, because mine is far better than the one I heard on the comparison widget. :)
Anyway, good luck to everyone.
