An interface input does several things. Often they have multiple styles of imput, such as midi, 1/4 line jack, s-vidoe and others. The other thing it does is help reduce noise and distortion that you don't want there. If yoour amp is cranked and you simply just run that through the line on the mac you can end up with background distortion like you get when you turn the your stereo up beyound the capabilityof the speakers it sounds just scratchy and staticy. The interface, a good one, will help eliminate most of that noise.

I need some help when it comes to using an audio interface or just the normal input. What do you think has better sound quality? I mean i'm gonna run it through my amp then straight to the back of my iMac but do you think its worth getting an interface with the limited quality of garageband?
