Playing violin with Grammy® winner Joshua Bell. 250 Fourth Graders performing a Broadway show as part of the first choral ensemble ever at their school. Creating the first-ever after school band. These are just some of the accomplishments that over 9,000 inner-city children were able to achieve through their schools' involvement with Education Through Music (ETM) this year. And all of these accomplishments would not be possible without the generosity of our supporters who help us to advance ETM's mission of creating better readers, writers, and life long learners through the power of music. In fact, principal Kristina Beecher from PS 3 in Brooklyn directly credits her school's success to ETM's involvement: "Since partnering with ETM, student achievement on standardized tests has dramatically improved and we were able to move many of our students from the bottom quartiles on both the NYS ELA and Math tests, such that we were able to climb from a "C" to an "A" on our School Report Card. I attribute this to many factors, including the long-term impact of the ETM program on student learning. "

As our 2008-09 Fiscal Year draws to a close, we once again come to you on behalf of the thousands of at-risk kids we serve in New York City. If you have not done so already, please consider giving a tax-deductible gift before August 31st by calling (212) 972 4788 or visiting www.ETMonline.org.

ETM believes that every child, regardless of socioeconomic status, deserves access to a well-rounded education, one that includes music. YOU have the power to give these kids the chance to succeed spectacularly - in music, in school, in life! We thank you for your support and wish you a very happy summer!

Hello everyone!

First of all let me congratulate the Indaba crew on this group as well as on the new and revamped Indaba Music: amazing work!

Second I have to share this exciting news with you:

Due to the overwhelming response we got in what concerns "Music for Freedom" we decided to go ahead and make the project separate from PublicSpacesLab netlabel.

Alreay online you can find "Artists for Freedom" (www.artists4freedom.net) and within it the "Music for Freedom" project (htpp://music.artists4freedom.net).

The purpose of Artists 4 Freedom is to bring together like minded artists from every corner of the Globe independently from what the media they are using to express themselves.

We will for sure count on the amazing support we have gotten so far from Indaba to make some more tracks come true.

This is just the beginning, in our opinion!

@Patrick: We really have to talk about your project and how we can come make things together. Thank you for the inspiration!

Cheers,
Fernando

This is such a nice intiative. We need public places to say that there are many ways to make music and that sharing is one of them.
I started Peace Partners because i thought it would be possible to reunite amateurs and pro's, young and old, and work in the same direction; to meet other artists, to try new styles and to cooperate for peace and freedom.

For me, making music for social causes is a real dialogue. Between musicians and between musicians and society. Some people will give money to charities, some will give time.

We give Arts, because it's what we are.

Peace
Pat
