About Streeter
Streeter

Streeter Seidell is a comedy writer and (mediocre) drummer living in Brooklyn, NY. During the day he edits the front page of CollegeHumor.com but when the sun goes down he takes his place at the helm of the Indablog. He maintains a personal blog at StreeterSeidell.com and wants to make sure you know he once wrote something for the New York Times and that it was, in the words of his mother, "Amazing! You're so talented!"

Battle of the Bands

Tuesday May 13, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Here's a great chance for Indaba members in New York City to get together, meet in the real world (gasp!) and support a truly wonderful cause.

Our friends over at Education Through Music are throwing a battle of the bands.  That's right, you heard me correctly; a battle of the bands.  Some - if not most - of us have been in a battle of the bands at some point but there's a difference with this one - the bands are made up of ETM students from schools in NYC who, without ETM, would otherwise have no access to music education. AND there are star performers who have been working with them over the past few weeks and will be performing live at the event. Even Jay Jay French from Twisted Sister will be there! Cutting music education in schools? ETM and Jay Jay say: "We're not gonna take it! No. We're not gonna take it!!!" (come on... I had to). All of the cash goes to benefit the inner city music programs that ETM provides for over 7,000 at risk children.  That's better than getting a free t-shirt and your song on local radio, right?  Here's what the folks at ETM have to say:

Join ETM and alldaybuffet for the most exciting event of the year! We have recruited celebrity artists to coach bands of ETM music students who will perform their songs at an all-star "Battle of the Bands" to be judged by YOU!

Featuring: Weekend Top 30 and WKTU's "Hollywood" Hamilton as our MC; Twisted Sister's JJ French; The Mooney Suzuki's Sammy James, Jr.; Rachel Platten; Goldspot's Siddhartha Khosla; a special message from The Wu Tang Clan's RZA; and many, many more!

So, if you're in NYC this Thursday (the 15th), head to the Canal Room from 7-11 and catch the battle of the bands.  It's either that or be a selfish jerk, and you don't want to be a selfish jerk, do you?  I thought not.
