One of my favorite TV shows is "Weeds," the Showtime comedy about a pot-dealing suburban mother and the crazy world around her. It stands apart from other comedies in a number of ways - swearing, nudity, zero remorse about drug dealing, to name a few - but one of the cleverest things the show has done concerned its theme song. For the second and third seasons, "Weeds" featured versions of the theme song - "Little Boxes," a 1962 song by Malvina Reynolds - sung by different people. Each cover of the song was unique, exciting and gave me, the viewer, yet another reason to keep my Showtime subscription active. Sadly, they have dropped the theme song in the new season - long story short, the show no longer takes place in suburbia and creator, Jenji Kohan, felt the song was no longer applicable - but thanks to the glory that is YouTube, we can take a listen to a bunch of versions. Who are some of the people who provided covers for the show? Let's ask IMDB.
Artists who provided covers for openers included Elvis Costello , Death Cab for Cutie , Engelbert Humperdinck , Kate McGarrigle and Anna McGarrigle (who sang the song in French), Regina Spektor , Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice , Randy Newman , Angélique Kidjo , Donovan , Billy Bob Thornton , The Shins , Joan Baez , The Decemberists and Linkin Park .

Maybe they'll release a record...Weeds' greatest hit! Actually it would make a cool compilation.
