Hey guys, I want to try something different. I want to give one of you a week a sounding board here to talk about your favorite song. Tell us what your favorite song is and why. It's pretty simple, right? But that's how people learn about other music and I want to know what you guys are into. Anyway, I'll go first.
My favorite song right now is probably Rilo Kiley's "A Better Son/Daughter." I can't exactly say what I like about it so much, but I can say a bunch of things that intrigue me. I like how the song builds from a simple, open chords into a rousing march. I like how the vocals come from the back to the front halfway through. I like the layered synth chords that also build for the entire song. I even like the lull in the middle, right beofre the "hit." Mostly though, I think I like how confident the song is. It's pretty much three chords right on through - simple, really - but it feels so much bigger. It feels like "Bohemian Rhapsody," but on paper it would look more like a Ramones song.
Now you go!
If you'd like to see your song up here post a blog with the title "My Favorite Song." Hope to hear form you guys.

"Produced by Alan Parsons. The lyrics were inspired by the 1942 Humphrey Bogart movie Casablanca. The title comes from Vietnamese astrology. The Year of the Cat is also called the Year of the Rabbit, it comes every 12 Years and it is supposed to be a stress free year. The Last Year of the Cat was 1999. It was also the Year of the Cat in 1975, the year before this came out."
