About Streeter
Streeter

Streeter Seidell is a comedy writer and (mediocre) drummer living in Brooklyn, NY. During the day he edits the front page of CollegeHumor.com but when the sun goes down he takes his place at the helm of the Indablog. He maintains a personal blog at StreeterSeidell.com and wants to make sure you know he once wrote something for the New York Times and that it was, in the words of his mother, "Amazing! You're so talented!"

What's Your Least Favorite Song?

Sunday August 31, 2008 at 09:00 AM

Yesterday I told you guys all about one of my favorite songs and asked you to post yours as well.  Today, let's try the opposite, shall we?  Like it or not, there are plenty of horrible songs out there and they deserve to be called out for sucking so, so hard.  So, if you'd like to let the world know which song out there absolutely kills you to listen to, post a blog with the title My Least Favorite Song.  As we did yesterday, I'll go first.

I absolutely hate the "Cha Cha Slide."  If you're not familiar with this sonic dogpile, count yourself lucky.  It's almost devoid of actual music, save some computer-generated drums and the singer just sort of talks over the beat.  I find it almost offensive; an asualt on all the halfway decent line-dance songs out there.  Yet at every wedding, every birthday party, every organized event with dancing, some horrible person seems to want to hear this garbage.  Line dances used to have music mixed with dancing instruction.  Not anymore, apparently.  Listen for yourself, if you dare! NOTE (this version has more music in it, but it's still awful!)

Now, back to the topic - I know that he is a great song writer but, what was Paul McCartney thinking when he wrote:

Someone's knocking at the door
Somebody's ringing the bell
Do me a favor - open the door
And let em' in

It is a good thing that Sir Paul was inspired by a knock on his front door and not by a knock on the bathroom door!!! Imagine what those lyrics would have been!!

So totally agree with you Mr. Seidell, er...Streeter (can I call you Streeter.) IMHO that "Cha Cha Slide" has got to go. In my wildest dreams someone calling the slide will say things like this with a crowd of people trying to follow it..."2 hops this time, now turn to the right, now grab your left foot, now grab the other, now hop on your tounge, come on do your taxes..carry that remainder, wash that dish that's in the sink - you know the one that's turning brown and crusted I think..."- then the crowd with turn and rend the CD-player asunder. The Electric Slide spontaneously broke out at my wedding playing MaryMary's "Take the Shackles off my Feet". That was fun. :) This song is not. :(

Hopefully this contest is really about good music. But I understand the popularity issue. Your sub could be exactly what they're looking for and end up not being heard. And so we know what the music biz is about. Get popular and make sure it gets heard. Webb

I think outside votes are GREAT!!! Nuff Said. Indaba want's to promote its sight, that would be a stupid move. Why else would they provide all those nice widgets?

the music video makes "Cha Cha Slide" a lot worse than it is.
I'll say worst song has to be Laffy Taffy - D4L
