Streeter

Streeter Seidell is a comedy writer and (mediocre) drummer living in Brooklyn, NY. During the day he edits the front page of CollegeHumor.com but when the sun goes down he takes his place at the helm of the Indablog. He maintains a personal blog at StreeterSeidell.com and wants to make sure you know he once wrote something for the New York Times and that it was, in the words of his mother, "Amazing! You're so talented!"

The Monday (Tuesday) Showdown

Tuesday September 02, 2008 at 09:00 AM

Welcome back from the nice, long weekend, Indaba.  I did a quick run through some of the blogs and it appears that everyone is abuzz with Mariah contest news.  I figured that since we're all thinking about her, why not make the Monday Showdown this week Mariah-themed.  But what to debate?  It could be her different sounds over the years or her different producers. Perhaps we could argue about her different styles or even her different romantic entanglements?  No, no, no, this is a community of musicians and we have to remain "on message."  Therefore, let's talk about Mariah's voice.  Now, nobody is saying she lacks the vocal dexterity to be called one of the most talented singers on earth, but there can be some debate as to which song best exemplifies her glass-cracking skills.  So this week, there aren't going to be any choices to pick from, instead I want to know which of Mariah's songs you think best shows her vocal talents.  Make sure to defend your answer in the comments!  Ready?  Go!

I think Mariah's voice is powerful and best shown when she sings piano/voice songs :)

Right now I can think of 1 song which really shows her vocals-Cant Take That Away(Mariah's Theme). The one that needs total high pitch is Bliss with the on & on & on & on & ooooooon :-)))
