From time to time, I get members asking me to “leak” top-secret Indaba information. Some of you ask about new features we’re looking to implement or what site changes, upgrades, and contests we’re considering. I always have the unfortunate response of saying that I am not at liberty to release this sort of info. I am still working under those orders, but there is something so huge going on backstage that I CANNOT keep it all to myself! I will deal with the backlash…
Indaba is getting ready to launch a completely new, and might I add, awesome console! We have been working closely with Sun Microsystems in creating this amazing JavaFX application. This innovative digital audio workstation will not only allow you to upload, edit, and mix your music, but will include new features - such as high-quality recording of uncompressed audio directly to Indaba, real-time non-destructive effects, a clips library full of Creative Commons-licensed loops, and the abilitiy to drag the console from the browser to your desktop and work offline.
The new Indaba console will give you much more flexibility and will ultimately allow you to work faster. The capabilities available with the new console will allow musicians to take their work and collaborations to the next level; literally changing the way music is made. Just ask Rivers Cuomo the lead singer and guitarist from the band Weezer, who states "I got different companies contacting me all the time trying to get me excited about their products, and most of the time I just don't care. But this particular application, the Indaba Music Console caught my fancy."
We are looking to unleash this beast by July, so keep an ear out and get ready to experience a whole new fantastic face of indaba Music. It will be like nothing you've ever seen before!
(Anyone looking to hire an ex-EVP?)

I think it is really great that you people chose to use Sun's open source cross platform Java programming language. Rather than Adobe's proprietary Flash. I would very much like to see Indaba move to completely open source and open standards. Moving to the upcoming HTML5 specification for music and video playback would be much better than using Adobe Flash.

Nice... keep pushing the envelope and we will follow!

Brilliant, Absolutly Brilliant. Go Team Indaba.

Thanks..Can't wait to use it!
Peace

Wednesday June 10, 2009 at 11:52 AM
JavaFX huh? I haven't tried it yet but I assume this is all platform independent stuff, looking forward to trying it out!
Wednesday June 10, 2009 at 12:15 PM
Great! now if you had the technology to make your website fit the browser, that would be an achievement.
Wednesday June 10, 2009 at 01:36 PM
the software seem like a great idea...... only one thing puzzles me....
if you guys understand about sound , then why is the vocal over dub so very poor...??? he sounds like he is in pain or some thing and cant wait to stop......!! derrrrrr..??

Livingtolove's comments about Flash vs. JavaFX are uninformed. Use whatever it takes to do the job, and leave whining about 'proprietary versus open' to linux geeks living in their parents' basement.

Now EVERYBODY on the planet can have a Home Recording Studio!
Most triumphant Mantis! :)

Are we talking, like, Pro Tools without the cost and without any hardware at all? THAT would be cool. SM

This looks really great! Cool looking interface and the feature set looks really impressive. As usual, setting the standard - congrats Indaba! If anyone is looking for open source in-browser mixing software (also using Java), check out mixblendr.com

Looks pretty freakin sweet! Cant wait to see what it's capable of.
Thursday June 11, 2009 at 11:10 AM
This certainly changes the idea of what a web browser should/can do. Keep up the good work!
Thursday June 11, 2009 at 04:33 PM

"leave whining about 'proprietary versus open' to linux geeks living in their parents' basement."
Thanks for those enlightening words, Bruce Bullis. It's just darling that you care so deeply about how other people live.

Wow! This looks fantastic! I joined Indaba about 3 months ago and thought, "This is cool, but it would be amazing if I could record music." Well, my wishes have come true! I especially like that fact that you can actually download the software instead of just using it on the internet. Can't wait, I just want them to give an set release date.

David - Is there no way to say "wink" in German?!
Friday June 19, 2009 at 01:34 AM
Hahahahahahaaaaaaa :-) Wink works very good :-)
Dein Deutsch ist wunderbar David :-) (wink) You are the "German man in New york"
You know the song from Sting? It starts with " I don't drink coffee I take beer my dear.............hahahahahahaaaaaa :-)
Friday June 19, 2009 at 09:52 AM
[laugh/lachen] Du bist ja nett, minime. Waere aber vielleicht besser wenn ich manchmals ein deutschsprechenden Land besucht haette. I think you should record a version of Sting's piece to celebrate the new console...

This is brilliant news!
I have a feature request. Please include an ability to "split" a sound file. For example, after we record something, please let us split or trim unneeded parts of the file.

Thursday July 02, 2009 at 11:27 AM
Did I say by July? I meant IN July as it says in the video! Hang tight as we're working on final touches. Please remember, as with all new releases we expect to have a few bugs to work out in this first version of the console. Once the console is launched, we will start a forum where we can all report any issues we might find - we would love all your input. We want to get version 2.0 to you as soon as possible and we are excited to be working on this with you!
