My Songs
- Skill Level:
- Amateur
- Instruments:
- midi keyboard
- Genres:
- new age
I'm a computer programmer and music is both a love and a hobby.
I see my music as an aural sketch-pad, something like a painter would a sketch pad, or a photographer would a series of images. I put some of these on Indaba just to share them with others. My music is strictly improvisational digital-studio based. While I'm increasing use of softsynths, I still use the audio of the digital piano I use as a controller, as well as guitar played thru the interface. The pieces are usually named in order of creation within a given project, and often focus on a specific series of notes through-out the project.
- Band or Group:
- (just me)
- Favorite Lyric:
I can't really say, but some that seem to stick (something like quotes from movies) include:
"Life is change...
How it differs from the rocks..."
--Jefferson Airplane"I want to get to heaven before they close the door." -Bob Dylan
- Day Job:
- Info Specialist
- How I Work:
I do improvisations, usually starting with a series of notes and going from there. The music may reflect moods I'm in, this or that issue, the weather outside, etc. Each month or so I focus on some theme, with the intent of making a cd of the material. I mix the recordings currently using Sonar 8. The cd's are not marketed; just used myself or given away.
- Experience:
Just doing the above for 20+ (?) years. It's been just a regular hobby for me.
- Equipment:
Roland synth and digital piano (RD300sx), electric and acoustic guitars, some percussion instruments (hand drum, etc.). Piano is used as midi controller, as well has for it's own sounds. Line6 POD for guitar interface.
Dell 430 PC (6gb RAM), Presonus Firebox interface, Sonar 8 software. Use included softsynths, plus Miroslav Philharmonik which I recently bought.
- Payments:
