About Me

Skill Level:
Amateur
Craft:
composer
Instruments:
vertical flute, piano, acoustic guitar
Genres:
jazz (all), classical, baroque, folk
Influences:

I'm a geologist and astronomer and close to nature based in Las Cruces, NM, now. There's nothing nicer than taking my flutes out hiking with me. Classically trained on piano. Self-taught on guitar and flute. Originally from central Illinois, I studied astronomy/astrophysics, geology, French and Russian at Indiana University along with a few semesters of classical piano. Moved to the Southwest and began playing Native American Flute around 1999. I have played piano, guitar, and Native American flutes for church and small coffee house venues with Shelley Barratt of 5-Revolving Doors. I just moved to New Mexico to become a college instructor in astronomy and geology, while freeing up some time to continue to expand my musical influences.

Working With Others

How I Work:

I work in the comfort of my home. Typically alone for better inspiration. But I'm not opposed to collaborating and being exposed to new culture, rhythms, instruments, etc. I enjoy jamming and like influences that expand my repertoire beyond what I currently play. I do get paid when I provide music for weddings etc., but currently have not set any rates. Mostly spend free time playing around, experimenting with my music.

Experience:

Home recording, playing in public, church groups, weddings, funerals, service music.

Equipment:

SY-77 Yamaha Synth, Mac Powerbook G4 with Garage Band mostly. Samick acoustic upright studio piano, Yamaha acoustic steel string guitar, Mitchell classical acoustic guitar, Epiphone Les Paul electric. ~A dozen ethnic flutes from all over the world (several Native American flutes, lumdzelis, shakuhachi, Indian flute, pan flute, feadóg). I also use my small bodhrán from time to time.

Lynn.... great music for meditation, healing and relaxation. Quality is as good as Peter Kater and R Carlos Nakai together. perhaps you can explore Hawaiin slack key guitar ( rich colors). A good CD to hear is "Our Beloved Land" by Nakai and Keola Beamer that bridges Native American and Hawaiin. Paul
