Trying to keep the music organic and staying away from synth as much as possible, Scopic is a hip hop producer/MC who was born and raised in Canada. He has been writing rhymes since 1990 and making beats since 1996. Although he has never claimed to be a savior of hip hop, he is a self-proclaimed preserver of hip hop. Scopic is part of a movement(which involves many MCs, DJs, producers, and other industry personnel) to take rap music back to it's more pure form. He feels that rap music peaked around 1993-94 when beats and rhymes apexed artisticly, and there was not as much pressure on artists to be overtly commercial. BLING BLING! Scopic pays little attention to modern music trends, and this is definitely reflected in his music, most of which has an underground, mid-nineties feel to it. Scopic's first official release was 1999's "Fragmented" EP, under the group ContraDiction(a duo made up of Scopic and Scott Nixx). His Second recording effort was 2000's "Mind Elevation". Which was comprised of several new tracks plus unreleased remixes from the "Fragmented" EP. Scopic's latest release is 2007's "The Basement Tapes" This album started off as a full length LP for the group ContraDiction. The album was recorded in 2001 and 2002, but remained unreleased because ContraDiction was unsure how to market it. Scott Nixx left the duo shortly after. Leaving Scopic to finish the album with minor alterations and remixes to fit his style. Original mixes of some tracks on the album are still unreleased.
