My Songs

Completely done with the Korg Legacy M1. Not very long but cool anyway, i think.

A simple song that's just the amalgamation of a few ideas. Doesn't go anywhere really but it's kinda cool.

A short song that developed from a couple of chords. It's very simple as well but it's more of an ambient, soundscapy sort of track.

This is a jam I made on my Korg M3. The synth is the Radias expansion synth, a sound of my own design, played live over the backing track. Kind of distorted here and there but it's a cool song.

This song is a series of patterns I made on my EMX. The first two are directly related and the last one is sort of abrupt, but it came from the same creative process so I tacked it on.

This is just a long collection of samples of patterns I made on my EMX. There's a bit of flubbed playing and resulting frustration on one of them, haha, but it's a wide variety of things I came up with on the EMX.

Another, shorter sampler of EMX patterns of my own design. See if you can pick out the one I based on a Bach piece (lol)!

A short song I started composing the other day.

A snippet of a song I've been working on for a while.

About Me

Craft:
musician
Instruments:
synthesizer, drum machine, keyboard
Genres:
rock, progressive rock, electronic, trance

I took piano lessons for about 4 years independently, then i had 3 or 4 more in high school. During that time I started dabbling in synthesizers and learned a whole lot. I'm not too bad a synth player, and I've really been looking for a means of playing with other like-minded people. I'd rather start original songs than do covers or whatever, and jamming's always fun, too.

Extended

Influences:
Yes, Genesis, Frost*, Dream Theater
Favorite Lyric:

Was it summer when the river ran dry,
Or was it just another dam?
When the evil of a snowflake in June
Could still be a source of relief.
Oh, how I love you, I once cried long ago,
But I was the one who decided to go.
To search beyond the final crest,
Though I'd heard it said just birds could dwell so high.

So I pretended to have wings for my arms
And took off in the air.
I flew to places which the clouds never see,
Too close to the deserts of sand,
Where a thousand mirages, the shepherds of lies
Forced me to land and take a disguise.
I would welcome a horses kick to send me back
If I could find a horse not made of sand.

If this deserts all there'll ever be
Then tell me what becomes of me.
A fall of rain?
That must have been another of your dreams,
A dream of mad man moon.

Working With Others

How I Work:

I've had synths and keyboards for years, and the rock band at my high school really sort of fell apart before it got off the ground. I've really been looking for an opportunity to play WITH people, since I do most of my work solo. I also think a bit of collaboration would help me COMPLETE stuff, because on my own i think up catchy riffs and stuff but then they always fall to the back of my hard drive unfinished.

I work very melodically, usually. My style has changed a lot, but I usually base things off an initial simple idea. When I work alone I usually build things up from one part, adding and deriving the rest of the parts. It works pretty well but lately I've been trying to keep my music from sounding overly looped/copy & pasted. Sometimes, though, I also work up from a chord progression. So my technique is varied, and it's just really on a "whatever works" basis.

Experience:

8 years piano lessons, lots of playing on my own. I've been trying to get better at improvising, too, and collaborating will help that. Now I've been playing in a band for about 5 or 6 months now as well.

Equipment:

Hardware, I use a Korg M3, Korg EMX-1, Korg NX5R, and a Minimoog Voyager. I also have the Korg Legacy Collection softsynths as well. I record with Mackie Tracktion 2.
