About Me

Skill Level:
Professional
Craft:
musician, dramatist, actor
Instruments:
acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard
Genres:
motown, memphis soul, philadelphia soul, indie pop, power pop, folk pop

I've made and recorded music since I was around 14 years old--I used to four-track in my basement, and since then my process hasn't gotten that much more sophisticated. I've recorded in professional environments with my band, The Seagraves, but the other three guys started having difficulty making time for music when they started having kids, so I started a DIY one-man soul band to make up for the lack of musical collaboration. This seemed like a good place to connect with other musicians and possibly make the Robinson Caruso project into a live act.

Extended

Band or Group:
Robinson Caruso, The Seagraves
Influences:
The Beatles, The Seagraves, Stax, Louden Wainwright III

Right now, I like this one by The National:

"You wouldn't want an angel watching over/Surprise, surprise, they wouldn't wanna watch/Another uninnocent elegant fall/Into the unmagnificent lives of adults."

Working With Others

How I Work:

Right now I track everything at home on my iBook G4, but when I record something besides demos, I really like the way recording live to tape sounds. I'd love to trade and augment demos with other musicians.

Experience:

I've been in a few bands, but none of them have been anything more than a fun side-project. The most fully-fleshed out band is/was The Seagraves. We recorded an album and played out fairly consistently over the course of 2-3 years in the Twin Cities area.

Equipment:

I play a Telecaster and an old Alvarez Silver Anniversary acoustic. My amp is 1964 Gibson, and I often record through a tiny Orange practice amp. I play a Squier P-Bass, but only when there isn't a real bassist around to record parts. I have an M-Audio Keystation and an Audio-Technica 3035 which I run through a Behringer Ultra-Voice Pro. My recording software is GarageBand, but I'm amenable to the idea of upgrading. I'm not much of a gearhead.
