This is a pioneer project, a local band from Shanghai doing old chinese tunes in a nice latin style. I've had the luck to participate in their first CD production the album "Escucha el Mar".

This is another pioneer project. This is the first time a chinese musician records a Bossa Nova instrumental album. The main instrument is the Erhu, the famous chinese violin. The songs are all from Tom Jobim.

About Me
- Skill Level:
- Professional
- Craft:
- sound designer, musician, arranger, composer
Luiz began his music studies at the age of 6, starting with classic piano. Three years later, he began his journey into Piano Competitions around Brazil, featuring his first award as one of the finalists in the 5th National Piano Competition of Araçatuba, Dec of 1988. His next awards came along just few years later: finalist in the 7th National Piano Competition of Araçatuba, Dec of 1990; finalist in the 8th National Piano Competition of Araçatuba, Dec of 1991; 3rd place finalist in the 2nd Coca-Cola Piano Competition, Oct 1992.
Years later he discovered his real passion for the popular music and bossa nova. Therefore he entered, for a short period, into a Jazz Piano Course at the Conservatory of Tatui (Sao Paulo-Brazil), improving his skills on improvisation and music arrangement.
For several years Luiz has worked at Berimbau Studio in Sao Carlos-SP, Brazil. There he could learn and understand the recording techniques. Hence he could not only put in practice his skills as arranger but also add a new role to his career as sound designer and sound engineer.
Through the years he has joined other short courses – such as Kodaly Method at University of Sao Paulo, in Dec 1996; Electronic Synthesizers at Synthex, in Sao Paulo, during 1997 – and music festivals – such as 1st Latin-American Encounter of Music Education in Salvador, in Sep 1997 – achieving new experiences and music influences such as Bossa Nova, Samba, Reggae, Latin, Blues and Jazz.
Later on, moving to China, Luiz has worked with many highly respected artists, including classic Chinese singers from Opera House Shanghai – as Chen Hai Yan – and Jazz bands – as Rolf Becker Big Band.
His career as a composer and arranger is being similarly active and varied. Participating in projects combining occidental and oriental music, his latest project involves a Bossa Nova CD album with songs from Tom Jobim. All songs are played by a Chinese instrument – the Erhu. That is the first time an Erhu meets Bossa Nova…
Recenly, living in Singapore, Luiz is member of Olivia Ong Quintet (an outstanding Singaporean composer and singer), music director at The MusicLab and music programmer at PinkNoize Studio.
