Dan Snakehead has been dominating dance floors for a decade performing in Vancouver, Salt Spring Island, and for a little while Victoria. He is a Rythme Institute DJ from way back (now school of mix) trained under Dj Marvel (another sick dj) check him out here : http://www.myspace.com/marvelousmervs
He was a night club, after hours and house party dj for years and competed in the DMC's a bunch of times too (three times: once in Whistler '05 and twice in Victoria '05, '06). In '06, www.thedjlist.com (the worlds largest DJ directory) ranked him number 1 for a short time for Vancouver.
Dan Snakehead discovered his passion for DJing in 1999 and started using a low grade computer. As an amatuer it was hard for him to find work other than spur of the moment house parties or volunteer events that only paid him in exposure. He has since played hundreds of events from house parties to big name concerts and it shows. He has "come up the hard way and paid his dues". He can play anything and he's cool with taking requests. He normally plays dirty electro and sometimes dubstep but he always plays other stuff too like Speed Garage, Trance, Breaks, Drum & Bass, 80's, Hip-Hop, (Top 40 if your ask nice enough), and of course scratch (the guy has invented scratch techniques). He plays on anythingvinyl, cd decks, his laptop, whatever, he's so versatile it's sick. He says he spends about six hours a night checking obscure charts and researching online so that he always has the freshest tracks when he's not playing. His creativity shines through in his mixes and his microphone skills, to say he can get a crowd going is an understatement.
In September of 2002 he founded a independant non-profit organization called "Last Minute Productions" dedicated to fund raising for local charities and youth crime prevention in his home town community (Salt Spring Island). He has raised and donated thousands to charities in his community like his local youth center, high school, and skate Park. Last Minute Productions is still a well respected, functioning, non-profit organization in his home town community to this day with a small group of very dedicated vollunteers (reference Nathan Valcourt P.R. 250-537-1999).
Dan Snakehead has returned to Vancouver to persue his dream of performing at stadium sized events.
Before that he was on Salt Spring Island again (3 years) were he raised his son as a single dad and DJ for the Local pub in his home town of Salt Spring Island. While there he organised more events and performed random house parties without warning, he was welcomed with open arms.
Pre-dating that he was at Barcode (Vancouver) where he played hip-hop, breaks, and drum & bass speraticly wednesdays thru saturdays aswell as playing an after hours every night in Coquitlam (known only as the Glen House to a lucky few). Unfortunatey Barcode was closed down (who knows why) so he made the choice to leave the after hours aswell and head back to Salt Spring with his girlfriend, shortly after (about nine months) they had a baby boy and she named him Jack.
Prior to that he was the resident DJ at the City Limit Night Club in Abbotsoford.
Before that he was simultaneously employed at The Jungle Room and Monty's Showroom in Victoria. At Monty's Showroom on Wet T-Shirt Wednesdays he was the Super Soaker Boy ;). He opted to leave the club due to the non-existant promotional team that is required to make successful nights. Before he left though, he refered the Jungle Room to Mother Bird Promotions (of White Bird Records) who took the nessecary initiative and now The Jungle Night Club is floureshing. So he left all his residencies on
good terms.
He's played with everyone from Benassi to Sweat Shop Union, Max Ulis to Subfocus, even 2 Live Crew the list is endless. Why he dosn't have more singles out is probably because he's always playing and partying like a mad man when he's not busy being superdad. Time for Ministry of Sound or some major label to scoop him up. He's got eight demo's of really obscure stuff like Celtic Electronica Fusion, Rotterdam, Mash-Ups and Spoof Hip Hop aswell as Quack Hits (his dirty electro series, hear the first one here : http://www.ravevictoria.com/music/djsets.php?path=%2FDan_Snakehead ) and his newest dubstep compilation "Dirty Step Fodder" (get that on his facebook page).
Currently teaming up with a small group known as "Daddy's Kids" out of one of Vancouvers outskirt cities, there is no telling where Dan Snakehead will end up next.
