Introduction / What this Blog is About

Thursday June 11, 2009 at 11:52 AM

Hey everyone,

In an effort to offer value to the Indaba Music community, I decided to start up my own blog that offers my experiences, advice, and questions about being a student in this tumultuous but awesome world we call the music industry.

A little background on me:

My name's Dan and I just finished my junior year at New York University as a Music Business major. I currently intern here at Indaba Music and hold a part-time job at a business management firm for various major-label musicians. I also play guitar and sing (backup and lead) in a band with 3 of my closest friends. Our style of music depends on the gig we play. Sometimes we're a funk/soul cover band with a few originals, while other times we're a multi-influenced rock group. We have yet to decide on a name (or whether we want 2 different names), but for now we go by "The New Soul Brothers" for our funk stuff.

From our gig in Prague last December. Not the best photo of us, but it gives you an idea...

The purpose of this blog is to share my own experience as one who studies the music industry in college, offer advice based on my experience, and hopefully open up discussion that everyone can learn something from.

Stay tuned for updates and join my new group "Students in the Music Industry."
