Demitri,
Welcome to the site! I am relatively new to the site myself, but have managed to find my way about through the help of others. I am not sure why you cannot find the tutorial or other help, but someone will know where that is here. I have had to learn by experimentation and the process of elimination and experience. There are still things that I am learning, but will ask someone else who may know. I have found the site often confusing and have had difficulty in downloading mixes for my collaborations at time, but I am always learning. Maybe I could help you a little about your question as to how to record your parts and download parts that would be used in your mix. First, you will need a good microphone and studio recording program to work with on your machine. I use Adobe Audition 1.0 which is a good program and is useful for even a beginner and a Shure 57 mic. Of course a good speaker system is a must as well as knowing that what you may hear on your computer may not be what someone else may hear on theirs. The law of compensation should be remembered when submitting mixes and parts. The recording program I use is rather expensive (or you may know someone who can give it to you, hopefully). There are other studio programs that will do the job and there are more qualified people on this site that would be able to help you find one that you could use within your personal recording applications. In any event, I encourage you to enter the Derek Trucks contest, as I see that your influences in guitar playing tend to go in that direction and it would be a good experience for you in both recording, online collaboration and musical competion, respectively. The main thing is that you do your best, learn useful studio collaboration skills and, most inportantly, have a good time. At best, you could find someone who has a recording program (who has ample experience in recording) that might help you, even a good studio, which would really be helpful and probabally one's best bet. A professional recording engineer would know how to tailor a good mix for you, since even at a home recording level, which is mainly my present situation, works for me and my personal applications. But I have had a great deal of experience in the studio for many years and am able to use that experience in my home recordings. In those days, we only had magnetic tape and analog machines to tailor the sound. Today, digital technology makes some things easier, but a good recording does not depend on so much the equipment, as it does good taste and a good ear in the final mix. Let me know if I can be of any assistance or if you have questions.
