About Me

Skill Level:
Amateur
Instruments:
sequencer, synthesizer, electric guitar
Genres:
progressive metal, soul, progressive rock, worldbeat, fusion, psychedelic, classic rock

Music is a creative outlet for me. It's probably rare to find a synthesizer enthusiast like me who's not a techno freak. I like to combine the organic feel of live playing with the modern feel of synthesizers. I tend to avoid dark music, but the synthezier inherently tends to push me into more cerebral expressions of modern day life. Where I live there are not many people who are into prog rock and fusion, and if they are thier playing ability is way beond mine. I'm more of a laid back player, enjoying the sounds of the synthesizers, and playing medium tempo beats. I'm sandwiched between 3 chord basic blues 1 4 5 structure and more complex structures and rhythms. In other words my influences are much more advanced than my playing ability.
So I keep it simple.

Working With Others

How I Work:

Depending on the situation, I like to come up with chord progressions with an existing basic rhythm, then hopefully rythm section adds more layers of complexity. But I also might just add a solo. I can also add some strings, hammond organ sounds, synth fills, or any keybaord roles that are basic. I sometimes think about more rigid arrangements with less improvisation, but I'm really improvisation oriented.

Experience:

I originally played in a classic rock and oldies garage band in the '80's playing rhythm guitar, and backing vocals. I became more interested in original music, improvisation, and synthesizers after a period of no activity in the early '90's. I eventually started messing with experimental midi sequencing software, and made some interesting music, but I wanted to get into actual playing, so I taught myself the basics of keybaord playing, and bought some cool synthesizers. I briefly played with some local jam bands, and a progressive metal band, but the drummer and guitarist split to Oregon. After pushing myself to learn more, I decided to relax and just enjoy playing whenever I felt like it, and buying new music gismos to inspire me to play more. I feel that I have some creative abilities, and a broad range of possiblities in composing, and performing. I want to invent a new kind of music. I have a conflict of wanting to play more culturally sound music like Country and Western music, but I also want to experiment and play spacy trippy music. I really don't care what kind of musicians I play with as long as it's creative, and not to ambitious.
