Christy Carew is a Canadian-American composer and pianist. She holds a Bachelors of Music from Loyola University New Orleans and a Masters in Film Scoring and Composition from New York University. She primarily studied with composer/orchestrators Deniz Hughes and Sonny Kompanek. Christy also has a diploma from the European American Musical Alliance composition program at L'Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, where she studied Nadia Boulanger technique with such teachers as Philip Lasser, Michel Merlet and Narcis Bonet.
She lives now in Los Angeles, CA where she is an active composer for concert, film and TV. She is currently scoring several short films, a comedy web television series, a feature-length documentary and a short form documentary. Christy recently scored the independent feature film "Manhattanites", directed by Gregori L. Martin. Her concert piece for traditional African instruments, "Mother Africa", can be heard performed around the country and the world, as part of the Vox Novus 60x60 Project's Pacific Rim Mix. Her choral piece "We Are But Stars" was a quarter-finalist in the Sorel Medallion Choral Composition Competition for 2008.
Christy also recently arranged, recorded and produced additional music for the upcoming New Line Cinema feature film "Sex and the City: The Movie," starring Sarah Jessica Parker and based on the popular television series, through her work with music editor Angie Rubin. She has also arranged music for the feature film "Elegy", directed by Isabel Coixet, and starring Ben Kingsley. Her music has also been used for American Public Media's daily business news radio show "Marketplace."
She interns with her mentor, award-winning film and concert music composer Sharon Farber, and is a contributor to Musiconfilm.net. Among Christy's many goals: to win an Oscar for Best Original Score!
"Grace is one of those intangible qualities that is difficult to describe but easy to recognize. Those who possess grace seem to walk effortlessly through life. They give the illusion of glowing from within and that glow is apparent to everyone around them.
It comes from anchoring yourself in the belief that you will be given whatever is right for you, regardless of how far off it may be from your perceived personal agenda."
