hey i really dig your beat on for the VL contest, its one of them beats that stuck in my head... you have made skills, keep up the great work!!!

Noah + The Man wrote on September 30, 2009:

Thank you very much for the comment on my page!!! Normally there's no such thing as too much if it's creating the right effect... If you're getting unnatural volume pumping it's a pretty good indication there's too much compression. Hope that helps :0)

Hey Barry! under the city lights is great!

Phil Turney wrote on September 28, 2009:

Hey man, just read your message.

The indication that the compression is too strong is in the bass drum. Often in your mix when the bass drum hits, it completely wipes out the rest of this mix. This can be an awesome sound when done on purpose to a track or two - for example, put the bass drum and the bass line on the same compressor and crank the bass drum volume. This will result in the bass drum totally wiping the bassline out when it hits, and then fading back in at the decay speed of the compressor. I really like your mix a lot, even if the contest is over, you should keep working on it if you feel it's not perfect. It's a beat worth perfecting.

Felt bad for the comment made on Vinyl Life Cnt. I often get the audio wrong and .. it's those songs that pushes me to get even stronger. Thought I pop'd by to listen to your other songs. Don't wanna be repetitiv, but .. cruel songs! I really liked them, add me as friend if you want (would be an honor). Good luck in the contest bro!

hey could u please check out my new track a remix of the Charlie Wilson track Let It Out. Tell me how I did. HOW WAS MY FLOW? Delivery? lyrics? swag?

http://www.indabamusic.com/songs/show/273165

This was made for a Jamglue remix contest. I added a verse and a lil' intro to the track. Quality wise this could be my best track, lyrics and flow wise too maybe. YOU DECIDE!!

naturally, man hehe. It's wicked stuff, you should be proud. Don't mind those other guys, they just haven't considered the track from a clean slate of mind. Hehe... slate of mind. Thanks for your comment on my submission as well! May the smelliest man win!

Thanks alot for the positive feedback. Nice to hear that we get inspired by each other.

AJ Wells wrote on September 24, 2009:

Hi Barry, to be honest i don't know a lot about compression either. When i'm mixing, i just tweak a bit here, tweak a bit there, and if it sounds good, then that's it. When you where mixing your remix, did you compress some of the snynths? To me that's what it sounds like you've done, you've compressed the synths a litte to much and it's creating a kind of side chain effect on the vocals making them drop in volume now and again. I could be wrong though. When i'm mixing, i mainly use a multiband compressor which allows you to compress individual frequencies on whatever it is your compressing and with the kind of music i make, i only ever compress the drums to make them punchier. As i said, i'm not an expert, but i hoped i help a little.

Thanks for your comments on my remix. AJ

You are very welcome. Your contribution is the best I have heard in the Tuffaz contest. Nice harmonies, groove and feeling. Now I just uploaded my own submission. Im quite satisfied with it but I think yoiur is far better. I am not a skilled musician. But i try though. If you got the time check it out and leave me a comment.

By the way I think the two tracks you have here on your profile is very fine aswell. Different from what you presented in the contes. Keep up the good work!

No problem fam, its a cool mix. Whats up with the amateur status? Those songs u got posted sound real professional.

David Garrison wrote on September 17, 2009:

You shouldn't. You did great work there. And it's one of the wonderful things about Indaba - that you can get real feedback from people who love the process of making music as much as you do. Good luck and keep the beautiful sounds coming!

Hey Barry, I'm still at Harris and it's going well, hopefully by next term the school will be on Logic 9, it's really giving Pro Tools a run for the money. Talk to you soon !
