Studio monitor need help

Tuesday September 09, 2008 at 12:55 PM

Hi everyone,

I want to buy some active studio monitor speakers. I already have the Yamaha Hs50m but they kind off suck. I have no control over my low frequencies.

I don't have a lot of money..............i want to spend 500,= to 1000,= euro's for a set of speakers. (i quess that is a lot of money for some people, even for me)

I understand that it has little or no use to buy expensive gear if i'm going to hook it up to cheap garbage. But here's my dilemma...........i don't have more money to buy lets say a decent soundcard, or a MAC computer.

I use a Pc with 2.6ghz processor and 2gb. ram. My soundcard is an Creative audigy Platinum (supports surround, 24 bit sound)

I now hook up my Yamaha's directly into the soundcards main output (small Jack on computer side, large Jack on speakers side). If i am going to buy new monitors they will be hooked up in the same way..............do u see the problem?

I need advice. Because i cannot do anything else yet,  to improve the room acoustics or upgrade my other equipment. So i have to buy one thing at a time. Is buying monitor speakers the right step?? and if so which one should i get (keeping budget in mind)

And if it's not a good idea.................what else can/ should i buy?

Your help is much apreciated.
