About Me

Skill Level:
Amateur
Craft:
recording engineer, composer
Instruments:
computer (pc), electric bass
Genres:
Hip-Hop, soul, garage, dancehall
Influences:
9th Wonder, A Tribe Called Quest, Arthur Baker, DJ Premier, J Dilla, Rza, The Alchemist, Augustus Pablo, Havoc, Just Blaze, Pete Rock, Marley Marl, Hi-Tek, The Bomb Squad

Producer/Engineer of UK Urban styles, e.g. Hip Hop, Garage, Bashment, etc. All music by Spy, all lyrics by the vocalist(s) [except where otherwise stated]. More of a production house/ideas arena than an artist/group (think Neptunes as opposed to N.E.R.D.)

My music 'career' began with me DJ'ing at school friends' parties. I continued as an operator/selector for a local sound, whilst simultaneously 'working' as a presenter on a series of unlicensed radio stations.

Based at The Web Recording Studio in South London, I'm now the producer/engineer of UK Hip Hop, UK Garage, UK Dancehall & Urban Pop/R&B for a small collective whose aim is to bring good, dirty urban beats and spread the message - "One Love, One Aim, One Big Party".

Working With Others

How I Work:

I have two rooms; 'control room' and 'vocal room'. Most of my compositions are VSTi based but I have the facility to record guitars/bass via DI and/or microphone.

I'm always interested in hearing from musicians, vocalists, engineers and producers who might wish to collaborate on a track or project. If you're in or near South East London and are up for it, please contact me by phone or e-mail.

Experience:

I'm not what I'd consider a musician (although I do make music, lol) and I'm not a formerly trained engineer, but I have learned from watching others (at various and varying studios over the years), reading (books, magazines and forums) and from doing.

I've reached the point where my equipment (and I include my environment in that) is as limiting for me as my lack of knowledge/experience. In other words, I've learned a lot through theory and practice but I acknowledge that I've more to learn and need better facilities to best facilitate that.
