About Me

Skill Level:
Professional
Craft:
musician, event producer, composer
Instruments:
violin, electric violin, acoustic guitar, oud, mandolin
Genres:
classical, world, ambient, celtic, classical, free improvisation, organic ambient, appalachian folk, experimental

I'm a composer/multi-instrumentalist/improvising artist living in Brooklyn physically far from my native Arkansas but in recent years the delta haunts me strongly. My largely instrumental music comes from many places and influences ranging from the saddly gone Michael Hedges and John Fahey to the wonderful composer Steve Reich to the eclectic Bill Frisell to traditional Appalachia fiddle. I'm a published author with Mel Bay with a new book out DADGAD Encyclopedia, endorsing artist for GHS Strings and Seagull Guitars. The last couple of years I've moved beyond the 'fretwire' and conventional guitar exploring fretless guitar, violin (a new passion) and the oud.

Extended

Band or Group:
Chinapainting, East of Where
Influences:
Michael Hedges, Jan Garbarak, Mike Hedges
Favorite Lyric:

I don't remember
I don't recall
I don't remember anything at all...

Peter Gabriel

Day Job:
The passion of a musician trying to figure out how to make it happen yet still tethered to a day job as a computer tech as health care and life in NY does not make being an artist easy.
