I'm easy going but can get caught up in work and focus for too long. I don't like a lot of drama and at my age feel like I should
not have to deal with any at all, but I keep an even keel so should the water get choppy, I won't get lost or taken out of pocket.
I love the good things in life, especially music, art and food!

Working With Others

How I Work:

I usually start with the song stripped down to melody, rhythm, harmony/chords and type of groove and tempo. Then I like to sketch out the rise and fall of the music. If working with live musicians all these things are given to them and we rehearse a little (not too much) before we record. If not working live then I like to sketch out/arrange the tune and do any timestretching before the basic tracking starts. With collaborations, I can work from any point if we are both open.

Experience:

I've been A&R for various labels for the past 20 years (Verve, ANtilles, RCA and EMI/Blue Note). I've also been an independent producer for about as long. My last signing and A&R'd record was Norah Jones' Come Away With Me which garnered 8 Grammy Awards and topped the charts for a long time. Since then, I branched out and created SoulFeast Music with dj/producer Joaquin 'joe' Claussell. We've done various remixes and dance/electronica productions under the SoulFeast banner. Currently Chico's Alternate Dimensions CD is out by us as well as remixes of AYO. My last production was Richie Haven's Nobody Left to Crown which will be released by Universal here in the states and Polydor in France.
I currently am doing A&R consulting for INgrooves, the number one international digital distribution and marketing company in the world.
