Ah ok, I see now. Perhaps you could experiment with different placement of your DR-01. In old jazz recordings they often times used just one omni-directional mic for the drum kit. But it is all about microphone placement to get the sound you want. Be creative and try some new locations for it. Check out the following link, and consider your DR-01 as a stereo pair.

Be creative and see what you come up with.

Hi Alexander, :)
After listening to the current mix of Rain Trance, I've been meaning to ask you how you mic your drum kit when recording. More about mic positioning, panning, and volume levels, rather than what type of mic, but it would be helpful to include the type of mic also. I ask because while your drumming is great, the cymbals and hi-hat levels are just a bit to much in Rain Trance. I know most drummers like that. But it doesn't serve the song all that well if it is too harsh to listen to. Mind you, I'm not saying this to criticize what you've been doing, but to help improve your sound when you record.

Hey Alexander, :)
What a great tune. I couldn't remember which one that was. But I'm listening to it now. The Greeting Song is a fun one to play! Fast and funky! Technically cover songs are not allowed on the web site here with out the publisher permission. And quite frankly, I prefer to focus on original tunes anyways. More satisfying in the end, when you can say you had a part in creating it.

Hey Alexander, :)
I was looking up the names you have under influences. Chad Smith's name didn't ring a bell until I looked it up. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were a big influence in the beginning of my bass playing in my early 20's. I cut some of my bass playing teeth on the Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic CD, learning all of the songs on the album. I still think it is their best album to date. Flea and Chad lay it down solid!

Sweet dude! What a cool connection. Your uncle is a fantastic drummer. I love the work on Everything in Nature. The words that come to mind are... if you can't groove with a simple line, how are you going to do it with a complex one? Anyways, what a great resource for you for insight and inspiration for your own drumming.

Hi Alexander, :)
I discovered Broken Poets through Magnatune.com where they have their music to listen and purchase from. So no, I don't know any of them personally. But it would be cool if I did. Their music is absolutely amazing! I have incredible respect for people who know how to write and play just enough to support the song. Complex music is cool, but there is a different kind of beauty in sparse arrangements also. What's your connection with them?

I know I'm going to be a little slammed for the next week or so. Let me get my poop in a pile and I'll get back to you.

No, I'd totally be willing to jam on a few things, just to get my feet wet on this Indaba thing.
