I'm a musician and a kinesiologist. Part of the week, I'm home in NH, working on projects. Sometimes I work on music that's primarily for entertainment, like my "Scrapbook Variations" entry for the Yo Yo Ma Contest, my duet album with cellist David Darling, "The Return of Desire: Improvisations" and my solo holiday music album, "Meditations for a New Year's Day." I also work on my Sound Intelligence book/CD sets for kids and their adults, materials that combine music and developmental movement for sensory integration, like "Rappin' on the Reflexes" and "Feelin' Free" (my current project is "Listenin' and Alive!' to be out in June, 2009, a collaboration with Paul Madaule, of The Listening Centre in Toronto, combining music with the expressive aspect of Tomatis-inspired listening therapy).
The rest of the week, I see clients in my office at The Lydian Center for Innovative Medicine in Cambridge, MA, which may be the only holistic health center with equipment that includes a piano. I combine Brain Gym, craniosacral therapy, and various forms of sound healing, including tuning forks and musical improvisation. I work with people who need to shift something in their lives - sleep patterns (from babies to senior citizens), traumatic memories, developmental delays, relationships, performance anxiety, physical pain (including all the musician-related maladies - tendonitis, dystonia, carpal tunnel, etc. etc. ) I sometimes improvise personal healing music for my clients.
I also travel, teach workshops, present at conferences, sell my stuff. And concertize. One of my favorite ways of combining my healing and musical work is to create "Environmental Sound-Healing Sculptures," pieces of music that organize and focus the improvisational energies of a group of people, specifically directed to healing a member of the group. (The effect always transfers to the entire group, as well). I've done this as part of Paul Winter's Sound Play workshops at Rowe conference center in MA; Paul has written me a beautiful testimonial: "Eve Kodiak is a consummate workshop leader . . . it has been an inspiration and a privilege to work with her."
Current research in physics suggests that, since the parts of the atom are so much further from one another than we originally supposed, that we are actually 99.9999% empty space. We are all VIP's -- Vibrational Interference Patterns. We are literally made of music.
People tell me that I do a lot of things, but to me it is all the same thing. Everything I do is just another form of music.
