Looking To

My Songs

This will be from my new record. This is an early mix of the bass, drums, and guitar. All sounds are more or less as recorded (no plugs or what have you). I am looking for some keys, and there will be vocals...

About Me

Skill Level:
Semi-Pro
Craft:
musician, recording engineer
Instruments:
drums, electric guitar, electric bass, piano, acoustic guitar
Genres:
indie rock, indie folk, experimental, free improvisation, psych-pop

I have been in a good bunch of bands over the years, from early developmentally challenged prog rock in high school, to experimental instrumental post rock quartets, straight up indy rock, to free improv groups. I have settled into a more personal songwriting thing now, having released my first record “and The Swede” this past year. I wrote, performed and recorded it myself, and look to continue doing the same with a new record. I am looking for some musicians to help fill in the gaps that I hear, but would not be able to perform… these things include strings (cello, viola, violin), brass (Trumpet, French horn, Trombone) and anything else that may be interesting (I would love to work with a steel guitar player).

I am open to collaborating, and consider myself fairly skilled at engineering.

If you would be interested in participating (we can work out some sort of fee for your services as well) please contact me.

Working With Others

How I Work:

I would be open to working with people who would be able to file trade, and be able to record their own parts reasonably well (I home record myself, but would ask that you could at least have a quiet space to record and a fair mic).

The files may contain some guides in the form of sample/piano line mock ups of the proposed parts, but if you are willing to arrange something that you think would be a good fit, i'm all ears!

We can discuss compensation based on the work performed… but I am certainly looking more for creative people who would enjoy working on a project for it’s own value as opposed to a professional big budget (re: expensive) arranger. I would hope we could be fair to one another!

Experience:

I started playing bass, and slowly moved over to guitar as a principle instrument. Over time I gained a solid ability at the drums, but more or less have never played in a group setting as the “main” drummer.

While I did perform in a good number of groups, all of them original bands writing their own material (myself doing the lion’s share for many of them), I had always been fascinated in the recording process, and began to take a strong interest in that area.

Logically, this lead to recording my own material, and having moved away from my old stomping grounds, I took to creating albums all by my lonesome. I am really into the “album” concept, I like to create a full record and take care in its sound and feel (which sounds obvious to everybody, but I think is truly overlooked by most).

My last record was something I started from scratch, writing and recording at home (for the first time) as a hand in hand process. I kept it private, performing all the instruments, vocals and engineering myself, adding my wife on some back up vocals and a friend on bass clarinet.

Having gained some experience and some good reviews, I am starting on making a new record, but hear the sound expanding a bit. I want to incorporate some textures into this record, elements like some subtle strings (small groupings) and some low brass. I detest the use of synthetic strings and samples, and am looking for some people to help me retain the human element.

I hear in my head something along the lines of Sprit of Eden/Laughing Stock era Talk Talk… If that means anything to you, please contact me immediately.
