Almost Six Months Into The Long Beach Musicians League

When I started the LBML I had no idea what would happen. I had a great opening night, Stan Dewitt spoke about alternate tunings.  I had Sander Roscoe Wolf bring a night of experimental music.  Mr. B did the Loins share of bringing in new music with  two shows booked.  Both very entertaining.  I had one singer songwriter come in and set up his sound t his liking.  I had the April Fools Eve Ball with Long Beaches own King Killer's.  Some punk rock girls tore the joint up that night.  I had many empty nights where I would wonder why I was doing this. After setting up the stage for the Kareoke people I would soon forget the lack of interest in LBML and get to rehearsing my own music.  It is nice to have a crowd,  but practice on a stage with a good sound system is always nice.  I have had some people drift in and drink a beer and leave,  I have been asked by others what was going on,  some of those people are now booking time.  It took almost six months but LBML is starting to fill it's intended purpose.  I have feeling that once it picks up speed it will be the hottest place to be on a Monday Night! I am looking to do musician mix ups.  Building a band out of strangers is always  more fun with alcohol. Tonight I have a drummer, guitar and keys from one group  and a bass player, harmonica and another guitarist from another band.  It should be interesting! Most of these musicians are just getting used to a stage and monitors, so my goal for the night is just to get a groove going and play a simple song.  Next week, Bohemiean Rhapsody!
I have also met some great musicians on the weekends.  Most have had a good time, some played to loud, some needed a pre-amp on their vocals and their band to turn down and some bands should have ________.  The first six months there have been some noteable shows.  White Boy James, Rocking Rose, Dale Peterson, Paperplanes, Barry Bremmer and The Lap Steel Duo. To mention a few. One New Band really rocked and I hope to see them again, they are the Riff Raffs from LB, great set of music. See them if you get the chance.
We also have a Blues Jam on Sundays that has brought in a few interesting renditions of blues standards.
All in all the LBML has been a success, and even when it wasn't, I still had a free rehearsal space, or labratory, is how I like to think of it.
Let me know if you would like to book a gig/bill/rehearsal in the future.  For all of you that have come and participated I thank you.  For those of you who have not ventured out on a Monday Night in six months, you need to get out more often.

If anyone know the Riff Raff's have them contact me.
