About Me

Skill Level:
Amateur
Craft:
recording engineer, programmer, music student
Instruments:
Guitar (All), mandolin, Bass, melodica, ocarina, ukulele, maraca
Genres:
psychedelic, rock, bluegrass, blues
Influences:
Nin, Porcupine Tree, Metallica, The Hush Sound, The Smashing Pumpkins, Steve Vai, Sublime, The Tea Party, Tool, Trampled By Turtles, Two Many Banjos, yonder mountain string band, Boston, Dream Theater

I'm an amateur musician looking to get out of my hell hole of a day job and into something more in line with my interests...but then aren't we all. I've spent the first 10 years of my music career being a closet musician, playing guitar and recording everything on my PC...with hardly anyone hearing anything. That kind of habit gets you into some pretty tough ruts. Indaba marks the next phase of my musical life: experiencing and collaborating with other artists while expanding and exploring my skills.

Working With Others

How I Work:

I tend to focus on one session at a time, delving in and getting absorbed into each individual song. I'm interested in all aspects of music from writing to engineering to marketing. I wanna learn and master it all. To hell with the day job.

Experience:

I have experience recording and mixing my own music as well as the experience gained here at Indaba. I Have made one complete "album" and am slowly (emphasis on slow) working on two more. I don't have much experience working with other musicians in a live setting, but plenty of experience recording in a home studio setting.

Equipment:

Old Harmony Les Paul-style 6-string, Strat-style 6-string, Unknown brand Acoustic Nylon 6-string, Yamaha steel 6-string acoustic, Fender Squier Bass, Unknown brand Mandolin, old Roland keyboard, Melodica, washboard, GHS Boomers strings, Tortex pics, ADA MicroCab, TC Electronics GMajor, Delta soundcards, Ibanez SM7, Ibanez Tube Screamer, BOSS Super Chorus, BOSS Metal Zone, Shure KSM27, Shure SM58, cheap bongos, Acid Pro 7, Wavelab 4.0, numerous plugins

I appreciate you checking out the music and I'm glad that you've enjoyed what you've heard so far. The set-up, is only as good as the user.

Hey Robert, how are things going? Hows the music coming along?

Great tracks you got here Robert,

Hey Robert!!

Thanks for the great comment on the music. Having Spoheary sing for us is going to be great! We're excited on this end!

Your music here is awesome! Only listened to 3 so far and just had to give you maximum ratings on the one I've heard. If we ever need a guitarist, we'll be a calling on you! Here's a link of a song we did a few years back that received some pretty good reviews. Nothing like on our page here. It's the otherside of us. More damatic/ambient movie style if you will LOL! -> http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6778895

Ok there's my plug LOL! Keep in contact and I'll do the same.
Respectfully, MikelD

Sure no problem. What do you mean? Well, voting ends on the 29th, I believe. We'll know for sure by then.

Daniel Ciurlizza wrote on June 19, 2009:

Hey Robert, heard your "Natural Improvisations" and it's great. You really worked your mandolin well around all that guitar madness. And now I'm listening to the tracks that you have on here.

"Something Forgotten" is really great. I'm diggin' this one.

"Sleep and Dream Part One's" raw sounding mandolin is cool. The whole track is really feel good to me.

Anyway, I saw that you dropped by my page, and i thought i'd return the favor. Thanks for dropping by and i hope you enjoyed some of my music. And if you haven't listened, please do, my friend.

-Daniel

Probably has to due with me being insecure haha... no worries.. I am too sensitive. I'll shake it off though. Hmm, I have MSN do you?

Sopheary Long wrote on April 2, 2009:

Yeah a ton... but some projects I feel as though I am like a subsitute.. it's rather annoying... oh well.. such is life. How are things Robby? :)

Dizzy Spin wrote on March 5, 2009:

SWEET! Your added guitar adds so much more depth. I'm gonna extend the track, leave a nice break for a guitar solo, and let you have it! I'll repost the new track within a day or two. I'll send ya a message to let you know when it's up. Sounds great, thanks! Peace, Diz

Dizzy Spin wrote on March 5, 2009:

Cool! I'll go check it out when I get back in an hour or so. But, I'm sure it rocks! Peace, Diz

Ryan John wrote on March 3, 2009:

A thanks for the kind words man! I used to use Acid Pro way back too. Def not a bad program at all, but it's seriously limiting when you get into more complicated mixing, such as sidechaining and strange bus routing and all. Hit me up on AIM sometime if you want to talk mixing sometime. AIM=doomempire

Dizzy Spin wrote on March 2, 2009:

Cool! I'll do a private collab, upload the mix, and invite you to join.

Ryan John wrote on March 2, 2009:

I'm pretty much positive that, almost ALL daws offer sidechain on VST inerts, such as Cubase, Nuendo, and Sonar

Dizzy Spin wrote on March 1, 2009:

Hey, if you want to add any guitar to any of the tracks, just let me know, and I'll send them over to ya. Peace! Diz

Dizzy Spin wrote on March 1, 2009:

I love the guitar you put in at the end of the collab track! I was really feelin' it.

Youtube, and I'm using Google Chrome or Firefox most of the time. But not all the times this incident happened was when I was watching videos, but if I watch videos, 9 out 10 times it shuts off.

Nori L. wrote on February 19, 2009:

My laptop just goes strait to a black screen and isn't on it randomly. It is more likely to do that if I'm watching a video or something .... ^^; any ideas?
