When looking for melodic innovation and one who executes beats with great poise, look no further than brand-new Musical Engineer, Robert “Treblemaka” Miller. This 23-year-old California native now rest his head in the Montgomery area of Alabama and putting his state on the map is only one of the elements driving this fresh producer towards musical greatness. As he makes his rise on the producing scene, for sampling competitors, attentiveness is a must because Treblemaka guarantees “Beats like your mom’s biscuits … made from scratch.”
Two words, “old-soul,” are perfect when describing Treblemaka and his musical influences. Up until the age of eight, music greats such as: Earth Wind and Fire, Jimi Hendricks, Muddy Waters, Janis Joplin and Simon & Garfunkel, just to name a few, penetrated his ear gates and music became his first love. Treblemaka’s music compositional influences also pose a threat, composers such as: Ludwig Van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Sebastian Bach stem from years of informal and formal piano lessons focused on the Classical era.
“I think part of the reason I make music the way I do is because I didn’t listen to music like 90’s rap, or anything like that until I was eight … I think I subconsciously pick up on their influence and I feel like my style is very organic … I can be compared to a sculptor, my finished product is not necessarily what I started out with, and once my creative juices start flowing, I can have a beat done in an hour.”
Known as the troublemaker to some of his teachers, the boy who was always beat-boxing and banging on desk to his peers and the Trumpet/Alto Saxophone player who helped carry the melody in his junior high school band are experiences in his life that help explain the origin of Treblemaka.
Treblemaka found musical refuge after being introduced to Fruity Loops Studio by his now partner in crime, Anthony “Shogun” Greenwood. As his investments advanced, his own copy of Fruity Loops Studio and a new keyboard, the latest studio additions provided a gateway for his skills to advance as well.
Treblemaka quickly made the transition from trial and error and being tutored by Shogun to an ability to create beats with ease and the opportunity to become a competitor in his first contest; The Roots Criminal Remix Contest presented by Indaba Music, where he placed 85 out of 300.
Although both Treblemaka and Shogun work as separate entities, they both stand under the umbrella of HigherState Productions.
“We provide music that serve as a higher entity than what is considered status quo. We want our music to take the listener to a HigherState of mind and a HigherState of being …”
Treblemaka would like to work with artist such as: Common and Jack White from the White Stripes. Jimi Hendricks, his biggest inspiration, is another artist that he wouldn’t mind creating music with. The above mentioned artist are artist who he considers to be “real” and “envelope-pushers,” artist who define their craft with their own thumb prints as he defines his own.
“I’m different, I’m fresh and I am on the cusp of what can be the change in the industry. I push my own envelope and I don’t look to anyone in today’s music for influence. Since I have a wide range of influences, I can always pull from that range and develop new music.”

Working With Others

How I Work:

Sometimes I start playing chords that progress into something. Usually I have a song in my head and allow to evolve when I lay all the patterns together in the DAW. I am open to working with anyone on any project, as long as that person puts the music first. I want to work with anyone who cares about the music. If I have one weakness it is a poor disposition to those who abuse creativity to become famous.

Experience:

I was taking formal piano lessons between the ages of 8 and 16. I played trumpet and alto saxophone in my middle school band for three years.

Equipment:

I use FL Studio 8 pro. A TASCAM midi controller, and a Yamaha keyboard.
