Bio

Musical smorgasbord...that's me

I love to take on too many contrasting projects; so my music can get a bit unexpected at times. Most of my close friends will say that I'm decent with my sounds, but come with a slightly-scatter-gun approach to them.

Am a better listener and recreator than innovator. But practise makes perfect and am learning all the time

Also have a lot more than can fit on here; drop me your email address to hear today's latest mixes

I love beats, bass, melodies, dancing, djing, vocals, harmonies, producing, keys, the rhodes, house music...the list goes on.

PS. Always open to some mentoring and/or managing - just love making music! Any tips and feedback appreciated

A.k.

Favorite Lyric

How I Work With Others

Overview

...too often in headphones, and with a hifi instead of monitors...life in the real world on a budget often means cutting corners. Thankfully, doing things "the hard way" is causing me to learn my craft carefully...and I can only go up from here!

I often get ideas, bully them into submission for hours, go to sleep, then wake up thinking "that was awful!"

After doing that for a few days, I have something passable :)

I get a lot of influence from life, and just listening. My ears are my favourite (and best) piece of equipment.

Experience

I've been remixing on Indaba for a few months.

I've been a part time DJ of Rnb, Hiphop, and more recently, anything house, for about 6 or 7 years.

I grew up in a musical family (and they all still are) mum sings, dad plays guitar, sister plays guitar, sax, flute, 1 brother plays bass, piano and drums, another piano and guitar, I play violin, piano, and attempt to sing.

The parents started me on music lessons when I was 6 or so. Violin and piano. That grew into orchestras, choirs, solos, performances, ABRSM exams, GCSE music, and everything that you have now.

Music production started during GCSE music, and with extended hiatuses (?), am back to stay consistent. Funny, as some of my older tracks sound so much better than my new ones...and they were produced on equipment so bad it's scary. I don't know what I'm currently complaining about ;)

Equipment

Hifi or DJ headphones for monitoring, 20 yo non touch sensitive Amstrad keyboard, beatup 3 yo Dell 6400 laptop, FL Studio + plugins, Adobe Audition.

We haven't worked together on Indaba.

Akara has a skillful command over his productions. I've worked with him and he's charismatic and professional--two character traits that rarely occupy the same head space. Akara Etteh is major talent that always delivers the goods. Big ups!

Gangster Records

We haven't worked together on Indaba.

We HAVE worked together before and it was a real blast!

As an individual, Akara is an amazing musician, person, bandmate and friend. He was hand picked from Indaba artists worldwide to work on a fundraiser project and song for Multiple Sclerosis. Akara is a true gentleman and he donated his time time and many great talents to make that happen.

I'm proud to know him and collab with him, he is a super positive person, it's a pleasure to know him. He's also my bandmate in Bianda and his music speaks for itself, diverse and groovy, you never know what you're gonna get, but it's a real good bet it will be bangin'.

We haven't worked together on Indaba.

A blessed musician with a wide array of talents. Since the first session I've been in rapping over his beats he's proven to be a reliable, well-educated mentor to help improve my skills and his own. We are currently collaborating and he has continued to show a loyal and skillful track record. Hence this recommendation, if you aren't collaborating with him and you're a DJ or MC looking for beats, TALK TO THIS MAN!
