About Me

Professional
Craft:
musician, producer
Instruments:
Guitar (All)
Genres:
blues, rock
Influences:
Duane Allman, John Coltrane, Mahalia Jackson, Ali Akbar Khan

At the age of 29, Derek Trucks is one of the busiest guitarists on the planet. It's no wonder - his unmistakable, incendiary guitar work has drawn appreciation from audiences, critics and peers alike. Perhaps most known for
his soulful slide work, Derek has a command of guitar styles that run the gamut from blues to classic R&B and early rock & roll, to Eastern-tinged world music and jazz.

After picking up the guitar at age 9 and forming his own band by 12, Trucks has been in demand ever since. His latest album with The Derek Trucks Band, Already Free, debuted at #19 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart, and the band's huge 2009 tour will cover all corners of North America, Europe, and Asia. The Derek Trucks Band also joined Carlos Santana for an arena tour in 2008, and performed (along with Derek's wife Susan Tedeschi) at the Southern Inaugural Ball in Washington, D.C. on the evening of the President's inauguration.

Aside from his work with The Derek Trucks Band, Derek Trucks has been a member of The Allman Brothers Band since 1999, and will again perform 15 shows at the historic Beacon Theatre in New York City this March as part of
the band's 40th Anniversary celebration. In between these two gigs, Trucks still found the time to lend his skilled hand to Eric Clapton's band for a successful tour throughout 2006-2007.

Through it all, Trucks has remained focused on his craft and the development of The Derek Trucks Band. His virtuosity has been recognized in all corners of the music world from the cover of Rolling Stone to Downbeat Magazine - and by musical legends of many styles and generations. But with his firm family roots in Jacksonville Florida, and a wide open road ahead of him, Derek Trucks seems content to let his guitar do most of the talking.

Thanks so much for a great opportunity! Your band has been a huge inspiration for my band. What a trip to "record" a track with my favorite band!

Derek,
The more I worked on the “Get What You Deserve” mix, the more appreciative of your guitar work I became. I submitted a new mix of piano & organ for the contest and tried to leave lots of open space for your excellent guitar work. If you heard my old mix, please give this new mix a listen and hope it’s true to the blues style that you have mastered.
Thanks again to you and Indaba for hosting this – it makes me want to go out and start another blues band to start gigging again!
