I'm your Peace Partner!
~ Dew Train ~ SEA The Band

Extended

Band or Group:
SEA ~ The Band
Favorite Lyric:

I don't just have one, so humor yourself if you like...

From "Against The Wind" by Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band: "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then..."

From the movie "Caddyshack" (by Bill Murray): "Great green globs of greasy, grimy gopher guts..."

From "Truckin' " by The Grateful Dead: "What a long, strange trip it's been..."

From "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley & The Wailers: "Don't worry, about a thing. 'Cause every little thing's, gonna be alright..."

From "Touch Of Grey" by The Grateful Dead: "Every silver lining's got a, touch of grey. I will get by... I will survive. WE will get by... We will survive..."

From "Big Bottom" by Spinal Tap: "The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin', that's what I said. The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand, or so I have read. My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo. I'd like to sink her with my, pink torpedo. Big Bottom, big bottom, talk about bum cakes, my girl's got 'em. Big bottom drive me outta my mind. How could I leave this behind???"

From "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-A-Lot: "I like big butts and I cannot lie..."

From "The Calibrator" (An Indaba session by Aaron Scott): "If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough..."

From "Preacher" by SEA's Dew Train: "He can take you to Heaven, or he can send you to Hell. He can park you in Purgatory, if you believe in that as well. You can achieve Nirvana, but you might see Kurt Cobain. Or you can visit Valhalla, where Odin makes his reign..."

Working With Others

How I Work:

I normally play a crunchy, heavily distorted & heavy style of Rhythm Guitar (To Love You & Bitch School ~ Above ^ ), but I can play other styles of rhythm guitar, both electric and acoustic. I can barely play a lead to save my life though (Bitch School ~ Above ^ ), and so my girl, SEA's Bass Player "Mother Earth," does most of our Lead Guitar parts in the studio. I also play a little bass (Big Bottom ~ Above ^ ), and until SEA finds a real singer, I write most of the lyrics, and sing all of the songs that have them so far (Big Bottom & Bitch School ~ Above ^ ). Sometimes my best effort will fall a little short. Never fear. That's why I consider myself a Semi-Pro. I'm not a Pro by a long shot, but I don't really consider myself an Amateur either. I will say this though: Most of the Indaba community, after listening to some or all of my work here, will think I am a lot closer to being an Amateur than a Pro. And I would agree with them wholeheartedly. That won't stop me from continuing to try though. I will persevere! I'm here to help out people in the indaba community for FREE!

Experience:

My first musical experience was playing the snare drum for my elementary school band in 6th grade. In 7th grade, our Jr. High School had a mandatory semester of Music class for some reason. I was asked to try playing the French Horn, and did so to the mocking of my classmates, who all got to play "cool" instruments. Then in 9th & 10th grades, I played the trumpet in my private High School's performing, jazz & marching bands. Not only did I play the 2nd trumpet part for "Pomp & Circumstance" at our school's graduation both years, but I even got to march in Seattle's St. Patrick's Day Parade in 10th grade. I have been playing guitar since I was about 11, when my next door neighbor lent me his brother's acoustic guitar, and his Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young guitar chord song book. The first song he taught me was "House Of The Rising Sun" by Eric Burdon & The Animals. I eventually bought my first guitar, an electric guitar, at the age of 13. It was just a crappy old used Peavey stratocaster knock off, but it played just fine for what I was doing at the time, which was learning. When I was 16 though, it got stolen out of my Mustang, and I never really replaced it with anything else... until 1991, when my friend sold my his Ovation Custom for $300! Of course, as they sometimes do, times got tough, and unfortunately I had to sell it. For the same $300 I bought it for... :( I didn't own another guitar until I bought my 2007 Gibson Les Paul Studio model in Dec. of that year. In between, I did play other people's guitars if they let me, just to remind myself where all of the chords were. My dorm next door neighbor in college let me play his Ovation some, and let me use it to play "Heart Of Gold" by Neil Young at the college's open mic night (mentioned below). But I never played seriously or very consistently until about 7 months ago, when I joined the forming band "SEA". At that same time, I began "interning" for our band's private "record label", Perfic Wreckords & Philms, relearning how to Mix and Master. I had taken some classes at a couple of local community colleges betweeen 1990 & 1994, which included Mics & Audio Recording, MIDI Systems, Music Appreciation, Radio Broadcasting, Videography, and Audio Engineering/Mixing. However, in the last Audio Eng. class I took, we were still using a board without a computer monitor, and only a small, single function LCD screen. Now, we still only have an old Fostex VF160 Digital Multitracker, with a hard drive and CD burner/drive, but I am diligently trying to learn, and bring myself into the more modern style of digital and computer-aided Audio Engineering. As far as more recent live performing, I have done a few solo 'open mic nights', and I have sang karaoke a few times after a few drinks, but I have never played a real live gig with a full band. Since my band SEA has not found all of the needed members yet, we have not done a live show yet. I'd like to some day...

Equipment:

I have two electric guitars that I use. One is a 2004 Epiphone Les Paul Standard, lacquered finish model in black & ivory (my girl Mother Earth 's), and the other is a 2007 Gibson Les Paul Studio, non-lacquered satin finish model in faded/worn cherry (mine). My girl has an Austin custom 5-string bass in tiger-striped black and teal which I sometimes use (see Mother Earth 's profile pictures), and I also have a Yamaha RBX-170 model 4-string bass guitar in bright silver-sparkled blue. Mother Earth has a Dean classical nylon-stringed electric/acoustic guitar that I use from time to time. Mother Earth also has a Nady 201 VHF wireless microphone, which I use to sing all of my vocal parts with. My amplifier is a Line 6 Spider III 120-watt combo amp, and Mother Earth has a Line 6 LowDown LD300 Pro 300-watt combo bass amp. You can see some pix of 3 of the guitars in my photos section (click above ^ ). We have an Alesis SR-16 16-bit stereo drum machine that we make our drum beats/patterns on (the same model that Dr. Dre used to make the drum beats for his album "The Chronic.") I have an old Dell Dimension 2400 PC with XP Pro, and I do some of my final mixing and mastering in a program called Goldwave. Mother Earth has an Apple Mac Mini, and we do almost all of our original mixing and mastering in a program called Soundtrack Pro. We use Event biamplified direct field Tuned Reference 8 monitors. Mother Earth uses Elixir PolyWeb coated strings, and I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky guitar strings. We both use Monster Cables and Sennheiser headphones.
