Tony J. Mucci (born October 8, 1983 in Los Angeles, California) better know by his stage name Eklect, is an American music producer and Chief Executive Officer of Eklect Records.
Commonly called a “workaholic”, Eklect is constantly at work creating new music that pushes the bounds of the so called “box”. His music ingenuity has created an impressive following in the southern California area.
He has been known to work with individuals from the music community such as Grammy-Nominee R&B singer Angie Stone, Mista Fab, Dnicest, Raven Sorvino, Donyea, George Acogny, and others. Also in his career, he worked for Dr. Dre and his wife at Improve Fitness
Early Years
Although Eklect was born in Los Angeles, California, his first part of his childhood took place in Santa Clarita, a suburb of the Los Angeles Metropolitan area. His parents (Maggie and Steve Mucci) bought a mobile home with the help of his grandfather Joseph Mucci. Eklect was an only child for the first 3 years of his life until his late sister Kelli was born in 1987. She died due to complications of her lungs just hours after her birth. Eklect would never have any other siblings since. Eklect lived in that mobile home until 1994; the Northridge earthquake literally demolished his home. Eklect lived in the back of his father’s truck and then with at a fellow church member’s house for the next 2 months. Following his homeless stint, his parents and he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. They lived there for 3 years.
During his 3 years in Minneapolis, Eklect played baseball and football. He excelled in both sports. He also learned how to play the harmonica and trumpet, as well as sung in the school choir. In early 1997 his grandfather passed away leaving his inheritance between his father and his aunt. Eklect’s family was able to sell their modest house in Minneapolis and moved back to California, this time settling in the San Fernando Valley. Eklect lived in the same house of his late grandfather, which is the same house his father grew up in.
In the following year Eklect attended Canoga Park High School. He also attended with Dnicest, a Rap MC that he has been friends with since he moved back to California. Eklect lettered 3 years in the football program. He was the recipient as such awards as Most Inspirational Player, Hardest Hitter (which resides in the school’s trophy room) and a 2 time winner of the Scholar Athlete Award. In his senior year of high school Eklect pursued performing arts and was involved with his school’s drama department. Eklect and a group of his fellow students (one of the students was Dnicest) placed 2nd in a fall festival. The Festival hosted 70 schools from the surrounding southern California area. Eklect went on to graduated from Canoga Park High in 2002.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Service
In May 2003, Eklect started his missionary service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was called to the Colorado Denver North Mission. This area covered most of the northern Denver area and extended into the eastern part of Wyoming and the western part of Nebraska. He would serve in this area for a 24 month/2 year period. Also, he was limited to restricted communication between his family and friends. Eklect states his church does this because “the missionaries need to be focused with no distractions at their tasks at hand.”He was given a title “Elder” and was known as Elder Mucci for the duration of his missionary service. Throughout his missionary service he served 1 year on a bike and proselyte 1 year in a car collectively. The cities he served in were: Thornton, Westminster, Johnstown, Loveland, Ft Collins, Aurora, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Eklect describes his missionary service as “some of the hardest times of his life, yet the most enjoyable as well.” Eklect returned home to California to his family in May of 2005.
Eklect held different part time jobs while attending Los Angeles Pierce Community College. He worked at Robinsons May (now Macy’s) throughout the summer of 2005, and then at Fazio’s, a dry cleaners in Westlake Village, CA. During this time he was reunited with his long time friend Dnicest. The two exchanged story from there service experience (Dnicest was a United States Marine).Eklect started Eklect Records and brought Dnicest into the company. Eklect became the CEO while Dnicest was the company’s C.O.O. In 2007 Dnicest was released from Eklect’s Record company, Eklect Records, and Eklect’s father took over Dnicest responsibilities and also became a co-owner of Eklect Records in 2008.
Education
Eklect attends college part time to finish up his B.A. in Music Industry Studies. He is a graduate of The Los Angeles Recording School located in Hollywood, CA. He graduated top of his class and interned at ATM Studios, and Cherokee Studios. Eklect was offered an internship at Conway Studios but politely declined.
Music Production
Eklect has a unique way of composing music. His music is dramatic and full of energy. He is not your common music producer. His main focuses are on mainstream Hip Hop, Pop, and R&B, although he has experimented with all genres of music. His catchy riffs and dynamic writing style is mixed with a beautiful blend of established styles is what coined him his stage name.. Eklect has been known to do freelance sound engineering around the southern California area. He worked at BB King's Blues Club in Hollywood mixing band from all sorts of genre from Mariachi to Metal. This experience influenced his music in terms of creativity and enthusiasm of thinking “outside of the box” when composing his music. In Dec 2007, Eklect was Executive Producer on Raven Sorvino's Debut MixDisc entitled “Fashion Statement and Swag Music”.
