Music is how I earn my living with both live and studio work.

I run my own session vocals business - I provide all vocals virtually via email. Vocals are recorded in my home-studio using professional standard gear in a sound-treated room. I also write the lyrics, melody, backing vocals and hooks for a lot of the projects I work on. You can check out some samples at www.voxinabox.com

I'm classically trained, but I love singing folk, pop, jazz, and electronica (or anything that gets thrown my way).

I write, record and gig with a band called Exitproject. We're a half-English, half-American folktronica band that likes to use acoustic instruments, fat vocal harmonies, bleeps, blips and the occasional kitchen appliance.

Thanks for readin' :)

Working With Others

How I Work:

I record all of my vocals in my home studio using professional quality gear. I tend to work in machine gun bursts - lots of sessions in a row while I'm fired up. Then taking a day off to recharge (when I can)

I'm picky about my session results and I won't settle for anything less than 'what's right'. Vocals have to sit inside a track, you know? Not distract from the song as a whole. I always want to know the meaning behind the lyrics so I can put it across in the performance. Getting the rhythm and melody right is only the beginning, an outstanding vocal track has to bring more than that.

I also try to add 'what the track wants' if I hear something new. Often backing harmonies, double-tracking or riffs and improv 'jump out' at me, so I'll add whatever comes into my mind.

Session work is charged on a per-track basis which includes lead vocals, backing vocals and double tracking. I can also write the lyrics and melody if needed (in fact, this is usually my favourite part) Vocally, every project is different so if you'd like more info, feel free to send your track across and I'll get back to you asap.

I'm always looking to get involved with new producers and labels so get in touch if you want some more info.

Experience:

I graduated with a degree in vocal performance after attending Berklee College of Music and Columbia College Chicago. Sixteen years of singing experience and I've been a professional singer for the past five years. I have experience writing and performing folk, pop, trance, dance, and electronica.

Past work includes projects of all shapes and sizes - one man bands, local song-writers, grammy-nominated producers, major labels, film studios and tv studios (including the BBC).

Live performance is my true love and I have lots of experience singing and dancing around a stage.

Equipment:

For recording - Neumann TLM 170 large-diaphragm condenser microphone, Focusrite Sapphire sound card, Logic Express, Mac Mini.

Live - SM58 and mic-stand.

Beautiful voice, Emi! I really like Modern Times; it's got a great feel. What is you rate per song for vocals? I love writing in a wide variety of genres, and would love to collaborate on some tunes sometime. Let me know.
