Fanny da Costa is a Norwegian Brazilian singer.
Ever since she was four years old she wanted to play the violin and finally realised this dream at the age of seven when she started to take classes at The public Music School in Oslo called Oslo Kommunale Musikkskole. She had many teachers and among them where Anna Ragnvadlsdottir at the Barratt-Due Academy in Oslo and Ting zu Chen. At the age of 17 she was the 1st violinist in the Orchestra Oslo Sør Strykeorkester directed by Ting zu Chen. In addition she played 1st violin in the orchestras Chamber Quartet. During this time she also took time to study piano for four years with different teachers at the Public Music School in Oslo.
However in 2003 at the age of 17 she became geuininely interested in brazilian music, she had always danced samba and even spent parts of her childhood in Brazil mostly in the state of Espirito Santo where her father comes from. During summer in Brazil the family would gather up in a small fishing town in Espirito Santo and there would always be samba de roda and pagode which could last all day and night..
At this time in 2003 she also started to practice Capoeira and was soon familiar with the intrsuments and the singing of this artform. She started to experiment with percussion such as agogo, caxixi, pandeiro and atabaque and of course the one string instrument called the berimbau. In spring 2007 Fanny iniciated a musical project featuring the senegalese reggae artist Ziggy Boomfall in Oslo. They held various concerts in Stockholm in Sweden and in Oslo as well as being the main artists at the event Fula Flex Night at John Dee in Oslo.
After this Fanny has spent two years living and studying in the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. At the University PUC-Rio she also started a sambaband with the musicians Pedro Villardi and Anna Clara Mattos.
Back in Oslo in the fall of 2008 Fanny has started a band called Bossa Frio with the norwegian musician Åsmund Kleivenes (Upright Bass) and Guilherme Schmidt Camara (Guitar) whom is brazilian.
