Yeah, I was goin' for the 'kick in the pants' feel with that comment, haha. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, listen to Hardstyle Nation by Blutonium, which I believe is the consummate hardstyle track.

As you can hear in this link, the main kick (not the first one) is just a simple overdriven kick and they use an solid offbeat saw bass to give it that HARD feel. Accordingly, your track needs a more powerful kick and that sub-sin wave should definitely be on the offbeat. Also, instead of that lead synth you used, you should experiment with a sawtooth to give the track more harshness and movement, which is necessary for hardstyle. Make sure you also mess around with reversed sounds (especially kicks) and transitional snares. I'll give you credit for the overdriven vox though, that was a good touch.
Composing and producing are very different indeed. You have to think about completely new elements. If you want even better criticism about how to make hardstyle stuff, Huepow00 would probably be an even better contact on Indaba.
Good luck.

Sup bro, I saw that you were looking for ideas for hard-style.. The best way to know what to look for is to listen to it. Hard-style / Jump-style is by far my favorite genre to spin at a dance party and I usually get my music from www.beatport.com under the "Hard Dance" genre. Check it out, I'm sure you'll get some crazy ideas! -DJ Throttle
