After moving to New York City in 1996, Jon has performed with many well-known artists including: Steve Swallow, Carla Bley, Sheila Jordan, Ronan Guilfoyle, Hugh Buckley, Richie Buckley, and Adam Kolker. He played drums on the Van Morrison 2005 Universal/Exile records release "Magic Time."

In addition, Jonathan has been writing for and performing with Nicholas Leichter Dance, while also working with other dance companies, including: NYU, Long Island University, Paul Taylor Dance, and Mark Morris.

He plays drums with U.S. based creative improvisers Equilateral, and an internationally-based organ trio, the Jazz Organism, which includes Australian guitarist Jeremy Sawkins and Irish organist Justin Carroll. Jon also performs with the Jeff Holmes Big Band and the New England Jazz Ensemble - groups that play music written by its members as well as music from the jazz ensemble/big band repertoire.

Jon has performed around the world on Stage, TV, Radio, and in recording studios, including: The Guinness Jazz Festival, Bray Jazz Festival, NYC's River to River festival, Summerstage, RTE (Ireland), Iowa City Jazz Festival, The Windmill Lane Studios, etc. He's also presented numerous clinics in the US and Europe.

Recently, The New England Jazz Ensemble released their CD entitled "Live at the Pittsfield Jazz Festival" on Seabreeze records.

Jon owns "Tunnel Street Studio," in which he writes, records drum and percussion tracks for singers, songwriters, producers, and other musicians, utilizing computers and the collaborative possibilities of the internet.

Jonathan is a Yamaha performing artist and endorses Sabian Cymbals, Evans drumheads, Vic Firth Drumsticks, and Grover Pro Percussion.

Working With Others

How I Work:

I do work quite quickly, as my drumset is always set up and usually miked as well.

I usually charge on a per song basis, providing either a stereo mix-down or individual tracks delivered over the internet. I can also supply a Logic, Garage Band, or Pro Tools song file if necessary.

Usually what happens is:

You send me 2 mp3's one with and one without drums. If you have any specific ideas about what you'd like played (or not!), it's best for you to let me know it at this point. Also a chart is very helpful as well. The tempo marking is also very important to have, as I record everything with a click.

I record a drum track and send you a rough mix. if there are any changes, you let me know at that point, and I'll re-record if necessary. I usually like to record a max of 2 revisions, so the information you give me initially is very important.

Once the final performance is approved by you, I can send you a stereo mix of the drum tracks, stems, or individual tracks if you'd like.

I require 1/2 of the payment before I start working, the remainder is paid when you are satisfied with the drum tracks. I will deliver the final mix (etc.) after your payment clears.

Equipment:
Yamaha drums, Sabian Cymbals, Logic Pro8, Pro Tools, Garage Band, etc.
Payments:

What's happening? It's always good to see another percussionist with some initiative out there. Thanks for the add. I'm looking forward to collaborating in the future. You work on the hard rock track is impressive. My drumset was stolen about 4 years ago and I haven't been able to afford another comparable one since. Hopefully that will change soon!!! Much love, Jim
