Mix NASHVILLE Event - Rockin so far! And one quick monitor technique learned here.

Wednesday May 21, 2008 at 03:29 AM

For those of you full-timers, the mix event in nashville right now is smokin. today being the introductory day (of the 2-day event) was great. hopefully it'll weed out the novice questions and allow the audiophiles to get the big questions answered..

so far today i learned (and will pass this on) for a great position in your reference monitor apex, it is best to angle your near-field monitors at a 30 degree angle and a distance of 67.5 inches from tweeter to tweeter. this placement will create the ultimate apex for your sweetspot and allow for a greater accuracy during tracking and mixing. this rule (and i asked), is supposed to work on all near-field monitors... so give it a try.. I wont be in my studio till saturday so let me know if yall hear the difference..

other than that, its a dual cover event, meaning free if you show up (but not guaranteed a seat) - however there isnt a whole bunch of people here either way) or pay $100 for the seat... i shouldnt have payed but oh well, i get my mix subscription renewed anyway.

engineers ive met so far... Chuck Ainlay, Buford Jones & John Yaszacz - Buford did a live quick set and mix using a live group jazz tracks... its was fun. then ended up having some RR talk about his life, and well - the man is a real pro and great guy... (Buford ran sound for... oh Pink Floyd, Linda Rondstadt, Al Jarreau, and some others.. i forget...)

Regardless, be here cause tomorrow is when the good sessions start...
