The Rhyme

About Me

Skill Level:
Semi-Pro
Craft:
recording engineer, music equipment sales, record label project manager, composer, live sound engineer, lyricist, mastering engineer
Instruments:
microphone, midi keyboard, computer (pc), mixer
Genres:
trip-hop, gangsta rap, dub, alternative hip hop, neo soul, dirty rap, hip hop, rhythm and blues (r&b), jazz rap
Influences:
Jay Dilla, Mos Def, Eric B. & Rakim, Blackstar, Dead Prez, The Roots, Pharaohe Monch, De La Soul, Rza, Pete Rock, Quincy Jones, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Wu-Tang Clan, The Pharcyde, Snoop Dogg, Redman

I started rhyming and producing in 1998 when I was 14 as a hobby and like anything you stick with I began to get more confident in my musical abilities. A couple of years prior to me being introduced to producing hip hop I found myself overseas in post apartheid South Africa, the year before that I was in Australia and the year before that I was headed to Switzerland. Every country had a different sound and appeal and I was determined to reflect that in my music.

Working With Others

How I Work:

I have off on Thursday and Sunday. My time is on a first come first serve basis and to be honest I would prefer clients shoot me an email before we enter the studio. I can be reached at mikelabz(at)gmail.com

I record hourly at $20 and I lease compositions at varied rates.

I'm putting feelers out there to try and pick up talented area artists who feel they can contribute creatively to the new hip hop movement. If you are near Philadelphia I am looking for new projects.

Experience:

I started and maintained an online independent record label called UNUdub.com in 1998 which I closed Sunday May 11, 2008. Currently my main concern is the quality of my own music so that I can use it to market me instead of vice versa. I work at a music equipment retail store which sells all the equipment I would wind up paying a whole lot more somewhere else. I have received training in live sound, microphones, interfaces, keyboards, pre-amps, compressors, and various other studio gear.

Equipment:

AMD Athlon 64 Dual 2 GB RAM 3 GHZ Processor, Sterling Audio ST51, Lexicon lambda, M Audio Axiom25, FL Studio 8, Cubase SX3, Goldwave, BehringerUB802, ATH-M30, Reason 4.0
