I don't usually do formal New Year's resolutions, but since I'm new to blogging and I have some things that I want to hold myself to this year, I thought they would make a good post. Sorry, but not all are 100% music related...
1. Get people using Indaba Music - obvious, I know. But I'd be lying if this one hasn't been occupying most of my thinking lately. I hope that we built something people like, and I hope that we can make it better so that they'll like it even more.
2. Learn more about new music in NYC - Dan was always the musical brains behind this operation, but Dave has caught up quite nicely, and now I really want to try and catch up with both of them. In particular, there's so much exciting new music in New York, and I want to know more about it. I really like live music, and I love the energy that surrounds it in New York. There was a recent article in New York Magazine about how it's impossible to keep up with the NYC music scene, but that's one of the things I love about this city.
3. Go to Bonnaroo and SXSW - Not sure how I'll find the time, but it should be easier this year since technically, these events could be considered work, now that I work for a music company, right?
4. Get back to Africa - I've been dying to go back since my first trip in 2005. Trust me, if you've never been, it's easy to get hooked. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, not to mention the beauty of Victoria Falls in Zambia/Zimbabwe, or the Namib Desert in Namibia. I was lucky enough to see parts of 5 countries while I was there, but there's so much more I'd like to do. Hopefully in 2007 I can see central Africa, and return to some of the places in southern Africa that I loved so much (this time with ES). If anyone can figure out how to classify this one as work too, I'm all ears.
