This post is a little late, but it's been a crazy week so far and I haven't had a chance to get it up. Regardless, I was lucky enough to join a bunch of Indaba-ites and friends at Live Earth on Saturday, and I have to say, many parts of it made it the most amazing show I've ever been too.
First of all, it's critical that we all take a larger part in solving the climate crisis, and I was really happy that these concerts got so much exposure and helped to get the word out. Beyond that, I was psyched to go to this show - the lineup was pretty incredible, and included (among many others) Dave Matthews, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, Roger Waters, and The Police.
Kanye pulled off a great set (not that it was a surprise), as did Dave, although it's definitely a lot more fun to see Dave in concert when everyone is there to see Dave and Dave alone (a lot of people seemed to be there solely for the acts that came on later). The real highlights for me were Bon Jovi doing Livin' on a Prayer, which was one of the most out of control, energetic live music experiences of my life. I really appreciated this because I probably wouldn't go to see Bon Jovi in concert otherwise, but to see him perform this song in a nearly-full Giant Stadium was pretty exciting to say the least. I've also never seen any Pink Floyd performed live, so to see Roger Waters do Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) and a few other Pink Floyd hits was amazing too. The Police closed out the show with an incredible set, topped off with Message in a Bottle, for which they were joined on stage by Kanye and John Mayer. A great end to a great show.
