I have read that it depends on what you are recording. Do you want the room's reverberation? Or to reduce acoustic reflections for a clean mic recording? For things like recording voice overs, a walk in closet full of clothing can greatly reduce echos and give a nice clean quality to the voice recorded. Or for some good reverb, record mic'd amps in the bathroom. Need more specifics on what you are recording.
