Hullo fellow human beings, I am a classically trained pianist. I've been playing & composing and writing lyrics since I was 4. I am disabled now by Multiple Sclerosis and I would go mad if it weren't for my Korg Trinity and my computer. Back in 1986 I scraped together the $ and went to a music store that had several keyboard brands. I picked one out and started playing-my Ma was with me & she, the employees and a couple of other customers were my first enraptured audience-they loved what they heard! And they wanted me to play more! After about 3 renditions and some improvisations I heard applause! I just busted out bawling. I had finally heard my beautiful music as I had always heard it in my head for so many years. And people really loved it! They asked me for recordings-I could hardly believe it! I mean, I love my music, but to have other people want to take it home with them? Wow. I knew my talent was real for sure only then.
Well, I put a down payment on a Korg M1, rushed home, read a few paragraphs of the manual, threw it aside in bewilderment, and started immediately making new arrangements for all my previous compositions & writing many new styled pieces. I found that the sound programs themselves literally inspired all kinds of new stuff! My kids would come home from school and find me still in my pajamas with some serious bedhead, sitting at the keyboard, slugging down endless cups of tea so that I could stay up all night and write and play while they slept. The years flew away raising my boys and me not getting anywhere musically. I kept composing, I had to. Music would wake me up and demand to be played and recorded. But since 2005 my M.S. got so much worse that I sat around feeling sorry for myself. I stopped playing or evening listening to my own music. It just made me so sad. I thought I was washed up in the multi-tasking department.
But my youngest boy (15), a child prodigy where computers are concerned his teachers tell me, (and no slouch musically either-he'd just rather play Halo right now) he downloaded Limewire one day not long ago and ordered me to check it out, "just do SOMETHING Ma!" Well, I began listening to many of my favorites artists again and I discovered that my insatiable NEED to make music hadn't gone anywhere. So in spite of the M.S. I WILL make the music I was born to make or die trying!

Favorite Lyric:

"The Rose" by LeeAnn Rimes

Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you its only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dyin'
that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been to long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

Working With Others

How I Work:

For now, I am just interested in meeting other Electronic musicians and hearing their music, and from whom I can learn MORE about HOW to make electronic music. Hopefully, someone will want to hear something of mine. I have always had an keen interest in writing Movie Soundtracks. People tell me all the time that my music lends itself to that. I want to take my musical career as far as I can, I am very serious about it. Mostly, it is in the sharing of our works and gifts we musicians and composers are fulfilled, are we not?

Experience:

I once had a very nice home studio with all kinds of state of the art equipment. My ex-husband put it all together piece by piece and we recorded our own music and other local artists. We did that for about 6 yrs. When the need arose, I collaborated with them, adding vocal and instrumental harmony and interludes to their compositions, also helping with or writing lyrics for a piece. We provided studio time free of charge to them, however many hours it took to get the project done-it didn't matter-it's what we lived for, all of us.The few local studios that there were, charged far too much, for inferior service, and that p--ed us off, so we built our own studio, darn it! It just wasn't right not to give a talented person a break, ya know? I am not a gloriously talented singer, but with the right studio equipment, my small weak voice can be easily tweaked and "fine tuned". An English couple we worked with eventually went back to the UK and got signed and published over there. They sent us their first CD and they had put our names, notating mine and my husband's contributions on the CD cover, because they used a lot of material from OUR studio sessions! We were ecstatic for them! And then we saw our names. We cried. They remembered us. That's all we wanted from them.
If I had all that studio stuff I wouldn't know what to do with it, my ex-husband did all the techy stuff- plus vocals, (sang like an angel!) arrangements, played trumpet, coronet and keyboard and did all the production! All with just a 10th grade education. He was a natural born musical genius, but he lost his mind on drugs and alcohol. My son and I had to flee from him for our lives. He started selling and trading the studio equipment right away after we left, for drugs. I got away with my two keyboards only.
Kids, just say no to drugs, please.

Equipment:
Korg Trinity Keyboard, M1 Korg. A really keen hopped up computer network, including microphone, with 5.1 Surround sound speakers, and my Raver niece provided me a program called Frooty Loops?? Haven't messed with that yet, cuz my brain hasn't been able to think it's way out of a brown paper bag for a year and a half. But, it's getting bettah all the time, yeah! Any other equipment that I have is of course, too personal to discuss!

Hello there. You don't know me but we have more in common than you know. My mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis about a year after I was born. I was her little helper growing up and I know exactly (well not exactly) what you have been through. I'm sure you are as strong of a spirit as she is. I can say that you have much beautiful music to bring to the world. I also started playing my first keyboard at the age of 4 and now use the korg triton studio for most of my music making. Don't you just love korgs!? I also use the korg legacy. If you don't know about it you should check it out. It is amazing for electronica. Anyway I saw you on one of minime's projects and had to introduce myself. I hope to do some collaborating with you. Yours in music, Jim Hughes

Hi Annie, You know, I was hesitant myself. I came to that and pondered it for a good 15-20 minutes. Then I figured that people who are not going to "get it" are just stuck with that and IT ISN'T MY FAULT and the people who *are* going to "get it" just might like to know. :-) Thanks for your inspirational personal bio and thanks for letting me know you "get it" ! :-D I hope we can work (play) together on something or other real soon. (I expect to be back into the swing of things around here beginning this weekend.) C'Ya! Mark

I have been hoping and hoping for someone to say anything about them, I worked very hard and they are my heart and soul. I appreciate that you say I am good with my keys and my songs are fine. I need many, many pats on the back !.I am glad that YOU are the first to do so, I watch the YouTube Video-enjoyed very much-watched it 3 times! So copy you and I put one out also on my blog page, a very old favorite of mine. I do all kinds of music, rock, boogie woogie, variations of Modern Classical, I write lyrics also. I am working on getting my taped recordings into Mp3 files and cleaning and tweaking them for presentation on Indaba. Hope to get something new and different on my demos soon, and want to get into a session very much, not sure how to do that, but will try hard to learn! Guten Tag! :o)

Annie, Thank you for your wonderful comments regarding "Love Will Stay." I agree, the vocalist has the voice of an angel. However, I am not the owner of that voice. It belongs to Marina Muravyeva, a talented young woman from Russia who is trying to establish herself as a singer. I wrote the lyrics, but the voice is all hers. If you'd like to here more of her, check out her Soundclick and MySpace pages. Thank you again for your comments, Amy Nicholson
