Food Blog/Vlog update.

Ok so I’m launching a food Vlog soon “Cooking with Chuck” and
editing video is a bit slower than I expected so some of the excitement is
going to have to get posted here for now.

I just got in the mood for some apple juice, its cold so I
was thinking maybe warm apple juice, then I though maybe Chai tea made with
apple juice instead of water. Sounds
like a good idea right (keep your opinions to your selves this is my blog)? I poured apple juice, warmed up apple juice,
added a bit of milk then warmed it up some more… Does apple juice have yeast in
it cause this is amongst the freakiest stuff I’ve ever seen, Its straight weird science up in here! I pulled the apple juice/milk (90%/10% split)
concoction out of the microwave and it looks like there is bread floating in
the mix. I spooned out the doughy portion
on top only to find even more of this bread like substance in the bottom. Weird, my wife says gross; maybe I agree! Pour it out and start over….

“Ctrl-S”

Just now I saved an email and then sent it… Why on earth
would I save an email to my drafts and then send it? I don’t know….hmmm… ? Natural reaction,
instinct, habit? I think hitting “Ctrl-S”
has become like second nature to me. I’ve
noticed it on other occasions too. I randomly
hit “Ctrl-S” subconsciously while developing whatever I’m working on. I’m sure I don’t need to explain why. However I will explain the connection that
just popped in my mind this very moment (4 hours after starting this entry and
wondering what makes it relevant).

We’re always working on and developing something. We invest our time, energy, money, and
emotions into everything that is important to us. Recognizing the value of that which we invest
in, we file and cherish, we take pictures and remember, we commemorate and
celebrate and when these things are on the computer we save them!

So here comes the parallel… If we are so apt to preserve things, why then
do we go on living life with no preservation of self. Olay makes their anti-aging serum and there
are about 70 different techniques to reverse hair loss but what are we doing to
preserve our souls…

Hooray for T-Shirts!!!! Yes, I am a T-shirt Connoisseur!

I’d say I’m the quintessential “T-shirt and jeans” kind of
guy. There are two things that I’d like
to collect; CDs/records are one of them and T-Shirts are the other. With places like Target, Old Navy and other
retailers pumping out so many cool graphic Ts, I find it hard to walk into department
stores without finding a T-Shirt that I’d like to take home. So today
I walked into Old Navy to grab some free hangers and lo and behold, T
shirts! Not just any T-shirts though, I
think Old Navy just created a new genre of T-Shirts. Enter the “Dressy-T”. A whole rack of Ts with Argyle, Stripes (that
wrap from front to back), and various other styles ranging between $5 and $7! I got so excited I had to exercise some self
control. “Sir you can’t leave the store with that many items especially having
come in with no intention to buy”, lol (talking to myself at this point). My wife doesn’t think I could pull this off
in the corporate world but that’s OK. I
agree with her when I’m thinking realistically, but for now let’s just pretend. Nice pair of jeans, a “Dressy-T” and a denim
or linen Blazer.

I think the fashion designers at Old Navy are on to
something. Pretty soon our generation
will be leading the corporate world and the next gen will be on the front lines
with even more liberal ideas on fashion and politics. And then T-shirts will rule!

Relax guys, “Pop” just means Popular…

One of
the more interesting things I've learned/come to grips with as an aspiring artist/producer
is that: we are really not the consumers. At times it’s been difficult to
maintain an objective perspective on both my own music and music from mainstream
artists. I think we all realize that we listen to music in a different
manner than most, and that creating music for ourselves is not necessarily creating
music for the consumer.

I
recently saw a video interview with ?uestlove (the drummer/producer from
"The Roots") and he made a very interesting statement about the
difference between music lovers and people who like popular music. I can’t
remember exactly what he said but it was something along the lines of: “people
who only listen to pop music aren’t necessarily music lovers but are more so
lovers of pop culture.”
This made me realize that pop music is not bad!
I think that we forget sometimes that “pop” is just short for “popular”. We all wanted to be popular at one point or
another, then we learned to embrace our own uniqueness. Now it’s time we learn to balance the two
philosophies. After all, it’s OK to make
music for yourself, but if we’re trying to connect with the rest of the world then
we can’t be selfish and only consider our own
ideas.

Music is a tool for
communicating. Therefore if your music
is not connecting with anyone then it’s just noise…
