Skill Level:
Semi-Pro

The Weepies, Josh Groban, John Denver, Broadway

I'm a singer & songwriter who is getting ready to release his first album. I'm very limited with what I can do, since I play all my "instruments" via MIDI on my keyboard. I would like to get feedback and possibly find someone/some people to collaborate with.

Extended

Band or Group:
Insongniac
Favorite Lyric:

Well, I looked my demons in the eyes, laid bare my chest and said, "Do your best to destroy me."
See, I've been to hell and back so many times, I must admit you kind of bore me.

Working With Others

How I Work:

I usually have a few bars in my head, and I figure those out on the piano. From there, they morph into verses and choruses. Then I go through it about a hundred times and end up changing chord progressions that I don't like. After the music is more or less complete, I decide what sort of emotion it evokes, and then start writing lyrics and a melody based on that. This works well sometimes and it works against me sometimes, since I'm basically locked into a chord progression at that point. After the vocals are added, I add the various instruments and percussion that I feel further bring out the emotion I want from the melody and the song as a whole.

Experience:

Hoping to perform more after my album comes out, and I'd LOVE to find some people to form a band with. As of now, I've only performed my music once, for a fundraiser.

Equipment:

a digital keyboard and a Macbook. Add a super cheap microphone to the mix and you've got my "equipment."

Hiya Justin,
No prob, only sayin what i feel from listening to ya tracks dude, I'm the same as you, a one man band, all my tracks have been recorded in a local studio using my two daughters for all the backing vocals, so i know how ya feel, it can get a bit frustrating when you know what ya wanna hear but your limited with live instrument skills, I've had to use a good friend to help me with live cello sounds on some of my tracks, but hey, thats why we're all here on Indaba to get help from other musicians, keep the faith.
