About Me

Skill Level:
Professional
Craft:
songwriter, singer, melody maker, lyricist
Instruments:
Guitar (All), Piano (All), Voice (All)
Genres:
pop rock
Influences:
Billy Joel, Weezer, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, J-pop, euro-pop, Abba, Dr. Luke

I tend to have low self-esteem, unless I'm standing in front of a full-length mirror, naked.

I don't believe it's witty to say "fail".

If I don't conform to your idea of cool, it's not because I'm being "ironic". It's because I have a different idea of cool.

I don't know how indaba works.

Working With Others

How I Work:

Once again, Beware Fashionable Women has produced the most suitable demo track. Look for the finished production next year on my debut Japanese album, ザ クマモトキッド.

Thanks to everyone who participated. There were a couple of amazing tracks this time around.

Raditude is a terrible album, When are you going to stop trying to make hits and get back to making real music. You actually have the ability to make amazing music.....why would you want to waste time and make generic crap? What happened to the band that made the Blue album and Pinkerton?....especially Pinkerton??? Please!!! Make the music that you really should be making and stop making this I can't stop making crappy songs crappy songs....oh yeah and partying....I really hope this is a real Rivers Cuomo page. I just can't take it any more....say it ain't so

Hey Rivers..any ideas of a ALONE 3: Rivers demo tapes cd?

Ben Evolence wrote on April 11, 2010:

Dude your profile pic looks alittle like a young Ben Folds. How is the judging going in the Love IS The Answer comp? Sorry for hyper tweaking your song but you sound darn good in an afro-pop genre!

Thanks for adding Sarnia Bayfest (Canada) to your tour this summer. It is an hour away so count me in. You'll love it here with the great Canadian politeness.
Cheers

Mr. Cuomo:
I know it's too much to ask, but just suggesting... If you could just check my submision and give some feedback, I would really appreciate it.

Barry Phillips wrote on March 12, 2010:

Thanks Rivers for making this happen - I've been in a sort of LoveIsTheAnswer time warp during the contest - not a bad place to be!

Hi, I'm so thrilled about the love is the answer project. Weezer has exerted a crucial influence in my songwriting since I heard of them first back in the late 90s. That mix of old school pop melodies and shredding guitars is just perfect! I hope I can submit my version within the next few days. Of course I won't win cause you guys a re way ahead, but I feel great just to take part in the experience. Rivers rules! Rock on, you guys!

ben crea wrote on February 11, 2010:

say it aint so was amazing. but you sucked me in with buddy holly. whole album played from start to finish in my cd player for months. i think sweater song was the first track i heard on the radio, i loved that too. thanx for bringing your experience to indaba.

an auditory artist wrote on February 11, 2010:

p.s.

I agree, it's not witty to say "fail" or "epic fail" or "fail bus"
I especially hate it when people ask me if I've seen "that" you tube video. Or even worse...when they start quoting a youtube video (or family guy episode) as if I'm expected to follow along and "get it"

an auditory artist wrote on February 11, 2010:

Hey Rivers Cuomo! I'm your biggest and least annoying fan, ever. I bought that blue album (around the time when the green one came out). Oh and this one time, I was in a record store outside of Louisiana (where they sell new new vinyl records) and i found maladroit on vinyl. yup, bought that. quick question - Did you become a New Orleans Saints fan and thereby a part of the "Who Dat Nation" before or after they won the Super Beauxl?

seriously tho, haven't listened to Weezer in years, but I'm pretty excited about this new 'Love is the Answer" contest. I'm not excited about the 'contest' part - I don't think competition and music mix well together. But I do think it's pretty cool yall (that's 'you guys' in the southern american dialect) did a lil lovey dubby transcendental track. and with that sitar and tabla... yea i'm a fan of that.

I'm relatively smart, but still relatively young, and concerned of the state of our world and long term survival...so my music usually takes on a pessimistic feeling... but this Love is the Answer thing has got me thinking I should work on my optimism for a New Orleans minute (that's the inverse of a new york minute, plus x for unpredictable fun time, converted into days).

bottom line of all this rambling... you will most likely hear a mix of "Love is the Answer" by me. This mix will most likely not be a winner, probably not even an honorable mention, but a descent mix nonetheless

peace n love
david

Rene Pachanga wrote on February 3, 2010:

Rivers... I graduated high school in 1994. Graduated college in 1998. I'm now 34. In all those years, for some now inexplicable reason, I dimissed your band's music (probably due to its popular success). Now, this year, in my search for great music in a time of drought of true talent, I finally personally discovered you and your band. It's genious. The problem was likely that I just wasn't mature enough (ironically) to appreciate what you've been producing. However, it has been worth the wait. Thanks. Please continue to stay true to yourself. For your sake and for ours. -Pachanga

ummm how exactly do I listen?? Maybe I can't because I'm in Canada??

Cort Maclean Johns wrote on January 2, 2010:

Mr. Cuomo,
I liked the musical direction you gave in Session #3. You were fair and judicious and I think you got an excellent final product because of that.

It amazed me how efficiant the process was... (I think it is important to immediately remove versions and comments that aren't on point, nothing personal, just not what was hoped for.)

I will try to model my sessions the same way you ran yours. In order for indabamusic.com to become a viable income stream for producers, it needs to remain discreet and professional. People looking for validation need to earn it through musical merit and timely execution.

Thanks for including this new musical community in your work. And thanks for making it a paid project. I think it encourages more paid exchanges amonst the developing artists and producers. If there are enough paying producers, there might be a nice groundswell of collaborative music production here.

Happy New Year,
Cort
